Andy McNab’s Immediate Action is a great autobiography, chronicling his life from childhood to Bravo Two Zero. He gives an depth of detail that is lacking in some SAS books and keeps you wanting more. He explains his life of crime as a young child and how that led him into joining the Army. In the Army he toured the areas that many did in the 70s, Belize and Northern Ireland been the most outstanding. He explains each of his marriages and the strains that he faced with each one. The part of the book which most people are interested in, the SAS life, is explained in great amounts of detail. He tells the readers how he tried and failed to enter the SAS in his first selection and got through on his second and final chance. Each part of selection is told in such great detail that it takes up a great deal of the book. He explains his tours in Columbia and Belize, and in great depth describes the people he met. When he returns to Northern Ireland, he makes it easy to define the changes in him and the way he perceives the hostile environment that he is in, with extreme detail placed in the missions where he worked for the 14th Intelligence Detachment. The parts about his Counter-Terrorism experiences are the cream of the book, telling the readers how they train to fulfil their CT role. The only place where information is truly lacking is the events of Bravo Two Zero, which is understandable as if he told the story in this book, who would by the other? There are some good photos to accompany the books, these are of weapons and items as well as him and the environments he has worked in. It is a truly excellent book, and it is a gripping read, read it NOW!
Advantages: Good information, very detailed Disadvantages: Some language not suitable for younger readers.
This is a real read and not for the faint hearted. The language is pretty graphic as are the details of Andy McNabs varied life. From the moment he was left in a carrier bag on the steps of Guy's Hospital to. I can understand why the government tried but failed to ban this book. McNab has been involved with conflicts around the World, including as a boy soldier fighting the IRA. He guides us through a world of surveillance and intelligence gathering, ... ...gripping as one of McNabs Nick Stone novels. First hand experience always gives you a better ability to write fiction more so than any writer who has to do their research. I also found it admirable what these men go through in order to get into the "Regiment" in the first place. Enjoy, hope this helps. John ...

Advantages: Funny at Times, Very Dramatic and Suprising Disadvantages: Chapter Length
...on any event in particular, Immediate Action portrays his life in the Regiment, from when he first went into selection, all the way through to the various missions he endured in his time there. Each chapter is fairly lengthy, with a lot of detail in it, helping you to understand how the task at hand was for those who had to do it. Some of them are quite shocking.
The book follows on from where Bravo Two Zero left off really. While McNab's previous ... ...and his team in Iraq, Immediate Action focuses more on his life as a solider, but does brush briefly past what happened in Bravo Two Zero.
The book itself is extremely well written, with a lot of technical terms used for the weaponary and equipment they used. It is also quite informative, describing how the SAS go through selection in the Breken Beacons and their various tactics and strategies. It's incredibly interesting.
Immediate Action features ...

Advantages: you learn a lot about his life and the army Disadvantages: im sure he missed out some of his roles in the SAS.
this is an exalent book describeing the life of andy mac nab the famous SAS soldier from the Gulf war in Brazo two zero. In his book he talks about why he joined the army, describing the rough life he had as a child growing up in peckham london. The book focuses allot on andy's personal life as well as his army carear. This i found very use full as he like to state being a soldier is just a job, and by focusing oalot on his personal life he come ... ...on his mariage etc.
The book also contains lots of details about his carear in the army, describeing vertualy every tour of duty he did, plus his training for selection. One thing which stuck be was that his regiment did not suport him for it, you'll have to read the book to find out why. Also the book talks about allot of the training and missions he did in the SAS, but leaving out alot about Bravo two zero, obviously because of his other book, ...

Advantages: A good book that will have you nailed to your seat whilst you read it Disadvantages: Sadly, the tales recounted by McNab are true. You have to read the book to understand what I mean.
AndyMcNab's ImmediateAction is a wonderfully interesting book following McNab's time from being a child and seeing his first corpse (a friend who fell through the skylight of a building) to becoming a major player in the most elite force in the world, the SAS. This book, more of a biography than fiction, recounts aarmy life for McNab and the rigourous training that you had to go through to even be considered for the SAS. This book is labelled as "The book they tried to ban" and you can see why. At around £6 it's hardly a forutne and it really is a right riveting (is that how you spell it?) read. ...
Advantages: All true and real Disadvantages: I cant see any
AndyMcNab's immediateAction is basically his autobiography, of his life starting from this troubled youth to this day. The book was tried to ban by goverment officals and SAS troops but it never happened. If you have read anything from Andys sollection and you liked it this is the book for you. Its all true and can teach your valuable lessons in life.
I think the only problem in the book about a 1/3 of it is based apon his childhood. Although it is exciting the average reader wants to here about his missions in the SAS and how he dealt with them. There is nothing more realistic than this book, its all true. It contains this action in N.Ireland too the jungle to the Counter Terrist team missions. If you love anything milatry you will love this! ...
Advantages: Very detailed but still interesting and exciting Disadvantages: A bit too much time spent on his youth
he goes on to describe the training and techniques used by the SAS as he served with them on 5 continents over a period of 9 years. He also recounts some of his own experiences from tours of Northern Ireland where he saw at first hand
some of the atrocities carried out, not to mention being involved in several incidents himself.
It is not only the action scenes that McNab describes, in fact he goes to great lengths to stress that the SAS is not just about shooting and killing, and this view he gets over very well.
He also goes on to describe the effect that his profession had on his personal life with what seems like numerous failed relationships caused by his single minded determination to push himself to the limit. He does show a "gentler" side to his character with the portrayal of his
daughters birth and his anquish at not ...
In "Bravo Two Zero", Andy McNab gave an account of his experiences as commander of an SAS patrol behind enemy lines in Iraq. Now he tells the story of his life, from the day he was found in a Harrod's carrier bag on the steps of Guy's Hospital to the day he went to fight in the Gulf War. As a delinquent youth, McNab kicked against society; as a young soldier he waged war against the IRA in the streets and fields of South Armagh; and as a member of 22 SAS Regiment he was at the centre of covert operations for nine years, on five continents. In this book he details his activities in a world of surveillance and intelligence-gathering, counter-terrorism and hostage rescue. See all Product Description
