After nearly ten years of loyal service from my old Hotpoint 800-rpm washing machine, it decided to retire on me half way through a load of washing. This meant the hassle of replacement and delivery of a new machine. After viewing all the electrical stores to decide on a new machine I was drawn to the Indesit WIL143 due to its features and price.

After a little more searching to get the best deal around I finally found the machine I wanted at Additionsdirect.co.uk for £199, which was good value for the product. The problems with delivery where not that major but I have reviewed them in my additionsdirect.co.uk review, as it is not actually relevant here but it did arrive safe and sound in the end.

The Product.

The washing machine I purchased was the white model but Indesit do sell this product in silver should you prefer that, however the product in silver will cost you a massive £279.95 and is only available from Curry's electrical retailers. The machine itself boasts a massive 1400 rpm spin speed and is classified in the A range for energy efficiency, C range for spin speed and A range for washing capability.

The washing machine load capacity is from 1kg to 5kg and has 59.5cm wide, 85cm high and 52.5cm deep dimensions; it also boasts a detergent recycle system.

It is supplied with water outlet pipe fitted and has the cold water pipe supplied with the machine as well as a fourth fitting for your detergent draw for bleach. There is no hot water inlet pipe on this machine as it is not required because the machine is of the A range in energy efficiency.

The machine has 11 wash programmes, an automatic water level control and features 53 litres water per wash. It boasts a 0.95kWh per cycle quality; soak and rain wash actions, load balancing system as well as rinse and hold features.

The machine is fully automatic, freestanding and has the EAN number 5051140410209.

My Opinion.

When the washing machine was delivered, I did discover from the invoice that I was actually charged £15 for delivery, which is about the standard rate. It was not clearly explained in additions about the different delivery cost but I have taken this matter up with them and am awaiting there response. Anyway back to the washing machine, it was well wrapped and had special transit bolts fitted for added protection of the machine and drum during transit. These were easily removed by a standard 10mm spanner and must be removed before use.

This machine had a few extra features, which I was unaware of when I purchased it, which I think are great, and deserve a mention in my opinion. The first great feature, which I found very useful, is the fact that when the lock is on the door of the machine it clearly displays this with a red light clearly labelled on the front of the machine. This light will flash when the time release has passed and will show clearly by the fact that the door is now unlocked.

This machine I also discovered has a timer feature which allows you to choose from 2hr delay, 4hrs delay, 6hrs delay or even 9hrs delay, allowing you to set you machine to start later. This would come in very useful for people who work as they could time there washing machine to be finishing its cycle when the arrive home from work rather than having wet washing left in the machine all day.
There are level lights on the washing machine, which illuminate green during the separate sections of the cycle, which tells you when the machine is on either pre-wash, main wash, rinse and spin cycle. It has this feature as you set the dials to your desired programme and they do not move during the machine cycle.

The machine it is very important to know is not the quietist of washing machines but in saying that for a 1400-rpm machine in my opinion, it is not over noisy. There are no features boasted on this machine though about noise level but then again the machine did only cost £199.00. There are four adjustable feet on the base of this washing machine, which allows easy levelling on an uneven surface to prevent excessive vibration.

I am extremely pleased with the quality of wash this machine gives at a 40º wash as all my washing came out really clean and smelling extremely fresh. The average 40º wash takes 70 minutes on this machine which is about standard but also it is on the A energy efficiency which helps. This machine also has clear instructions to show you how to easily clean the easy accessible pump should you have a blockage, but the pump cleaning valve is hidden behind a white plate on the front of the machine which unless the plate is removed is invisible to view therefore giving this machine a pleasant appearance.

The door lock is realised by a press button system on the door itself which is about standard to operate but I feel could have been improved a little really when you think of the other features this machine offers. More added features to this machine are that it has the capabilities to wash on a 30º wash and has sport shoe washing cycles. The machine has the facility to wash with an easy iron cycle and extra rinse cycle.

I have not actually used any of the pre-wash or rinse cycles and therefore feel it would be unfair of me to comment on them but I will say that it was extremely easy to install the extra bleach compartment to the detergent draw, and the detergent draw can be easily removed for cleaning. There are two dials on the front of the machine one for setting the programme cycle you wish to use and the other is for setting the temperature of wash you want. There is an easy reference grid of all programmes available displayed in silver writing on the front of the detergent draw for you as well.

The washing machine itself came with full instructions which in my opinion are well set out and very easy to follow. They clearly show how to install and use you washing machine as well as how to set all the programmes required. As with all appliances, this is supplied with the plug already attached as this is required by law and if your machine is not then it is faulty. It is recommended to have all large household appliances installed by a professional if you are unsure of what you are doing.

My machine was delivered by the warehouse and the delivery driers were extremely helpful and not only brought the washing machine to exactly where it was wanted but also removed all the wrapping and took it with them for correct disposal.

Overall, I will give this washing machine 9/10 for quality and features as well as ease of use and installation. Well done Indesit.
