Argos in disguise

Advantages: friendly staff , competitive prices
Disadvantages: none

Index (part of the Littlewoods group ) is a catalogue that is in direct competition with the likes of Argos and to a lesser extent the home shopping groups such as Gus and Empire Stores .

They bring out usually two free catalogues a year like Argos - the spring / summer , and autumn / winter versions.

I always compare the price of the goods in Index with Argos and typically Index comes out a little more expensive . On ...
...then Index is around 50p more .

Shavers , tents and breadmakers are three such areas where Argos just has the edge on price in certain brands.

Don't let this be the deciding factor though and occasionally it is the other way around .

Index sometimes has a small area designated as part of the Littlewoods department store as in Barnsley .But on occasion as in Scarborough the shop stands alone just as Index.

Advantages: Well presented site, easy to order
Disadvantages: Lost orders, No help, No apologies

...i needed, i turned to Index Extra online and promptly proceeded to order two skateboards (one for each son) and a set of skates for my daughter. By return, i received a confirmation of my order by e-mail with an order reference number, so that was that and i awaited my 48 hour delivery. By Tuesday afternoon, Nothing. Wednesday morning, Nothing. Wednesday afternoon, i decided to call as my son's birthday was the next day. The first thing that i found ...
...for 'index extra online.' The index online help desk is open 8.00am - 8.00pm, but the index extra help desk is only open 9.00am - 5.30pm ????? Once i got through to the correct desk i was asked for my confirmation number, which i gave them, at which point they told me it was incorrect. I pulled up my e-mail again to double check and confirmed to them that it was most definately the one 'they' had sent me. They then proceeded to ask my name, address ...

card sharp

Advantages: cheap, friendly and convenient
Disadvantages: some of the products haven't lasted too long and have been easily returned

Index's Flexible Account Card is a good way of spreading the cost of a bulk buy from the store (thus saving paying the postage and packing charge of £2.95), and this week they have a special offer of saving you 10% on your order, using your card, from littlewoods/index/index extra. the flexible account offers a 3 months interest free option for payment, but as the name suggests, you have an option of paying however much or little you want per month ...
...don't pay the minimum interest free amount you will have a small charge to pay of course. You receive a statement every month to your door. I like this way of paying, you don't have to worry about carrying a large amount of cash into the shop. If you save up a load of purchases to do at once, and get them delivered , it is very convenient and cheap. I have found their returns policy very easy and fair, and some of their prices that i have compared ...

Sorry we cant find that order

Advantages: Good quality products
Disadvantages: Their web service needs sorting

...order her something from the index extra website using my credit card (always the way eh!) so I did. I had no problems ordering the coat, and it said to wait for the confirmation e-mail, which I never did get. It states that you should wait for 48 hours and the coat will be with you, but it wasn’t! So, I e-mailed Index Extra with my invoice number etc that I had got from the normal response e-mail and they got back to me the next day stating that ...

How many times can you get it wrong.

Advantages: Wide range of products
Disadvantages: Help line from hell, very unhelpful and no apologies.

...that I have used the Index shop several times and never experienced a problem. Armed with their lastest catalogue and a cup of tea I sat down in my new house to peruse what was on offer. Flicking through the index catalogue I soon found what I wanted to buy, a Delonghi dragon heater. Knowing my desired object would be heavy and bulky I was more than happy to pay that little bit extra to have it delivered directly to my door. Grabbing my credit card ...
...days holidays my experience with Index turned out to be the most expensive item I never bought. Needless to say I have no intention of repeating the experience. If your order arrives undamaged well done, but avoid the helpine at all costs! On a side note, I finally did get a dragon heater from Great Mills and would heartily recommend that to anyone. :) ...

Index Extra! - definately offers more

Advantages: High street prices, can spread cost interest free over 3 months, great sale brochires
Disadvantages: Delivery charge, interest is charged is items arent paid within 3 months

...catalogue for years, I discovered Index Extra. It doesnt offer a commission deal, but to compensate this, items are generally 10 quid cheaper than other commission based catalogues. You can, however, spread the cost, interest free, over a period of 3 months, which has come in handy for myself. You receive a statement each month, showing all items credited to your account and how much you need to pay for your account to remain 'interest-free'. You ...
...discounts! The only hunch is that you have to pay a charge of 2.95 for delivery, but this is worth it, especially if you are placing a big order (its the same charge for delivery regardless of how large the order). This catalogue would suit those who want to spread the cost of an itemover a short period and pay high street prices! ...

Argos - just another catalogue company

Advantages: Convenient
Disadvantages: Disinterested, bored looking staff, not good value for money

I used to shop occassionally at Argos but have since given up. I am surprised that, after reading a few opinions here on Argos, that so many think they are good value. I personally think Argos is not good value. The reason? I was looking at different prices of lawn mowers for my husband and looked at Homebase, B&Q, different catalogues, Argos and Index. I was very surprised because up till then I considered Argos more of a high street store, but the prices of lawn mowers at Argos where about the same as those found in your usual run of the mill catalogue companies. In fact - in this instances, Argos turned out to be more expensive than Homebase and B&Q. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of buying from Argos to also compare the prices at Argos with those at Index cause on a number of occassions, although they are both ...

Hover the day away

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: none

Background ~~~~~~~~~ A few months ago I bought my own house, which also meant I had to cut the grass. For the first time ever I had to go and buy a lawn mower. We always have a couple of Argos and Index catalogues knocking round, so I decided to look through them for an idea of prices. Boy do they vary in prices too. They start at around £30 and go up into the £100’s. The way I look at it is; I’m not a big fan of gardening and didn’t want to spend hundreds of pounds on something I was going to use maybe once a week for half the year. With this in mind I settled on the JMB Hover Mower (model GHM-1200-GR). I purchased the hover mower from our local index store for around £35. The mower comes packaged in one box but in two pieces, you will have to attach the handle to the main unit. This is done with a rather large ...

EasyJet , the Power Devil way.

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful , good overall performance
Disadvantages: Too little mains lead .

Power Devil - 'PDG4024A Power Washer' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As the years have gone by , slowly but surely dirt , grime and algae have taken their toll on our paved area's . Patio cleaner and a wash and brush down have had limited success , so it was decided to invest in a power washer . Not that the paved area's were the only reason for said purchase , there's also the car ( fed up of paying astronomical amounts for poor performance car washes ) , and other area's that the washer will be put to good use . So why the Power Devil PDG4024/A ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For starters Power Devil are simonimous with quality goods at an afordable price . This product was purchased from Index / Littlewoods Catalogue store at just £49.99 . Secondly was the competition out there . I could choose from the Karcher range ...
