Its My Right Index to Index.
Its almost Xmas and myself and my partner are planning what presents to get for friends and family. This is me looking back by the way and I am not confused as to what month we are in. It’s the 6th April so please don’t be worrying about my sanity, well maybe just a bit.

Its My Right Index to Index.
Its almost Xmas and myself and my partner are planning what presents to get for friends and family. This is me looking back by the way and I am not confused as to what month we are in. It’s the 6th April so please don’t be worrying about my sanity, well maybe just a bit.
So out with the good old Index book and lets have a look at what there is in it. To be fair it is a really good catalogue and has something for everyone. So we look at the toys section and get that toy for the kids and something for my Mum and a few things for ourselves, cant very well leave ourselves out can we.
The list is complete and the codes are all filled in and its just a matter of getting into the car and driving to Index. On arrival I can see its totally packed and I know I should have done my Xmas shopping earlier but still after today most things will be in. So its over to that little machine they have on the wall and get my list out so I can key in the products so I can see if they are in stock. I can hear this old man beside me swearing and then crumpling up a similar list to mine and walking away, hes probably just old and cant work the machine.
On the other hand as I start to key in my items all I am getting is those words “Item not in stock” and out of 8 items that I had on my list only the three were in stock. Still I shall join the queue and pay for the stuff and then make my way home. I had to wait about half an hour as only one girl was on and then I was pointed to another corner of the shop were at least eight other people were waiting. I don’t actually mind waiting with a few other people because I love listening to people moaning, my favourite one is the one that just sighs and then every 5 minutes or so just raises the volume of the sigh. Its tempting to just tell them to dry their eyes but I just wait and wait and wait.
Then something really strange happens, my name is called out and it surprises me that much that I actually jump. “Yes that’s me” I shout as if I am in a Bingo hall and I have just won a lot of money. I collect my items and that’s me, served and on my way home.
The good thing was the items in Index that I did get were of good quality and were also a good price but it was the fact that most of the stuff was out of stock that annoyed me. I decided two weeks ago to give then another chance as it was Xmas after all and everybody is busy and understocked at that time of year. Also I had picked up one of their sale brochures with a load of special offers so I could see Index redeeming themselves right away. After all the store is really tidy and well set out, they have a great separate jewellary store and they have those great machines that tell you right away if the stuff is in stock. They also have a lot of their goods displayed on the wall and about the store and their catalogue and special offer brochures are great and its nice to be able to sit in the comfort of your own home and browse through their items.
So my partner has picked a few things and I noticed a nice portable televison at a great price so I picked that. So over to the machine and key in the three items and its that message “Item not in stock”. I keyed in the other two items and they were out of stock as well. Now I am a patient sort of person but I really hate looking through a brochure at something at a great price only to find out its not in stock.
I decide to complain to the girl and ask her why so many items are not in stock but that proved a waste of time as she had that vacant look in her eyes. Not that I blame the poor girl because I am pretty sure she has suffered a lot of abuse all day from irate customers who just wont accept the fact that the item is out of stock.
I liked the layout of the shop and those machines are great and to be fair the girls in Index are really friendly considering the abuse they take from the general public. Its not easy dealing with the public and those girls are really good and if you do give them abuse yourself then don’t, they cant help the fact that Index don’t keep those goods in stock. I blame Index as they never carry the full stock of what is in their catalogue and so I cant really give them a good rating. They also do home delivery but how can you deliver something that you havent got. So its my right index up to Index for wasting my time, should I go to Argos instead, that’s a story for another day.
Advantages: Good prices Disadvantages: Only cheaper or mid range items
Index may not be the first store that enters your head when it comes to make a purchase of an electrical product but it should not be ruled out either. Index's prices are then main attraction for most people, myself included. They offer some good rates on a range of smaller electrical goods and I believe that they also supply most major White Goods too via their home shopping catalogues.
Certainly if you are looking for smaller electrical items ... ...appliances, Index can hold their heads up with the major high street retailers and with a 14 day no quibble guarantee you can always return goods if they turn out not to be to your liking.
At present they have an astonishing deal on portable colour TV's. Just £69 will buy you a 12" remotecontrol TV which has excellent picture quality and is ideal for a second or third set. I bought one for my daughter's bedroom. For another tenner you can buy one ...

Advantages: Fast, easy online ordering Disadvantages: email never arrived
I placed an order with index extra on Tuesday morning; by early afternoon they phoned me to confirm the delivery address as in their words it was a large value order. The site can be viewed at:www.indexshop.co.uk or www.www.littlewoods-index.com
I found the site very easy to navigate through, with plenty of menus to guide you to the product you want.
This I appreciated as it shows that they are indeed security conscious. It was also confirmed that ... ...I have placed orders with Index many times and have always had the same excellent service. The only negative comment I would make is that when you order online they send you an email confirming receipt of your order and stating that another email would be sent confirming the delivery date. I never got that second email, but maybe that was because they phoned me to confirm the details.
In the past when I have ordered items that were not what I expected ...

Advantages: Town centre based Disadvantages: Slow service, poor layout of store, stock shortages
My experiences of Index are not good. I occasionally shop at the Rotherham store but the main problem with it is that the staff are extremely slow with each customer and also they rarely have the items that I require in stock.
This is a small branch and I suspect that is the reason why the stock levels appear to me to be so poor. As to the time it takes to get served, this is the usual procedure. I queue up to have the order processed. Very often ... ...and queues at the one or two tills open. Eventually I am served. In the unlikely event that they have the goods that I want, I then go and queue at the collection counter. I wait and wait and wait. Eventually I am served. The whole experience can take ages. Never any apologies as this is the norm.
Prices - I find that generally their prices are a bit on the steep side and by shopping around you can usually better them. It seems that the fact they ...

Index offers great value for money when buying goods. Included in this are Hair dryers, and other female electrical goods, which is where my girlfriend buys hers! Being a student, money is tight, but Index offers great prices as it has cheap makes. This is perfect for something that does the job, where no frills are needed.
However, I go to the Newport store in South Wales, where there never seems to be much staff, and they are usually chatting ... ...come down the conveyor belt, where I can see it, and nobody bothers to get it.
When they are getting rid of stock it is piled out in the store, but in its cardboard boxes makin it look untidy and hard to see what they have reduced.
Other electrical items are also good value for money, and there is no harm in looking in the catalogue, before choosing where to buy!
My advice is, pick up a catalogue, and compare their prices! If you like, give them ...

Advantages: Easy to shop and return any goods Disadvantages: Self assembles don't always have right parts. INDEX STORES ARE CLOSING
...some off to rival Argos. Index has been making huge losses for years it seems and they can 't afford to keep their shops open. This is a total heart breaker for me as I only live a few streets away from an Index Extra inside of a Littlewoods store. This is where I used to get all of my jewellery cheap for prezzies and other things as gifts. Life just won't be the same without Index shops to go and quickly get items from.
No more reserving online, ... ...feel for those who are losing their jobs.
No more bustling to the catalogue stands and checking to see if the item you want is in stock. No more little pens to put in my pocket absentmidedly, (they were always handy later on), no more waiting in line at the pick-up counter. Argos, of course is identical, but the service just won't feel the same.
Yes, a great sadness. Index/Extra is closing it's stores.
I for one shall miss you. ...

Advantages: Fast efficient ordering Disadvantages: None spotted
My father recently complained that the fan heater he uses to heat his conservatory had packed up, so (being a nice guy and all that) I thought it would be nice to get him one.
Instead of driving the 100 miles to give him it, I thought I would try the online Argos or Indexshop (part of Littlewoods). Argos were more expensive than Littlewoods Index, so i ordered through them.
Very reasonable delivery charge of £3 and the goods arrived the following day at my dad's house, having given him as the delivery address.
Very seemless and efficient, and she he want to, he can return it to any of their stores for a refund as per normal. Recommended. ...

Advantages: Good service and Range Disadvantages: Expensive
Having worked for Littlewoods I can offer a little more of an isight into them and though like all home catalogues they are expensive they do offer a good range of benifit to both the custmomers and those who act as agents and delievery times as good though you would in many cases be better off shopping at Index which is apart of the Littlewoods group becuase prices are much cheaper and most items are in stock and they both offer
*Clothes (men, women and childrens ware)
*household items
*toys
*bedroom items
*kitchen items
*bathroom items
*Jewellery and many more
*Hi fi
*Electronics
*Games and Acessories
*Shoes
* DVD
*TV'S
*Videos
And many more items here though I would not say they offer more than the rivel companies like Great Universal who own both Argos and www.jungle.com so if it was me I would check them ...

I would just like to share my own experiences of Argos, a shop that took my business earlier on this afternoon.
I was looking for a storage item for my enormous collection of PC games, so went in to my local Argos store in order to look for it. I went to the catalogue, took a look in the index - and found nothing, or so I thought until I got home. As I had more time, decided to look in the Argos catalogue that we had at home. And on closer inspection, they actually had what I was looking for.
The supposed main index in exactly the same catalogue that was in the shop was at the front of the book, I never thought of looking more towards the back. Therefore, only the basics were shown in the front of it - people just like me don't think to look elsewhere!
So I took a note of the catalgue number; went back on in to town ...
