Fergus is another edition in the Thomas the Tank Engine collection. He is a little blue traction engine who always likes to do the right thing.
THE STORY
The book begins with the Fat Controller giving us a bit of information about Fergus and telling us that one day he asked Fergus to help Bill and Ben in the Quarry.
We are told how Fergus knows all of the rules and how he always likes to stick to them.
The story goes on to tell how Fergus was cheerfully chuffing across the island to do a special job which the Fat Controller had asked him to do.
Fergus passes Thomas and tells him about this special job and Thomas warns him to watch out for Bill and Ben as they like to get up to mischief. Fergus thanked Thomas and said that he would not let them get the better of him.

The Author
Tony Maddox was born in Birmingham. He trained and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator until he realised his ambition to write children?s books and had his first book ?Spike the Sparrow who Couldn?t Sing? published in 1989. He then developed the character of ?Fergus? the farmyard dog and has written at least 9 books involving this little character.

The Story.
The story is based in a farmyard and features an adorable little dog called Fergus who is mainly black and white with a brown patch on his right eye. The story centres around the different animals helping the farmer Bob as his tractor has broken down. The chicken pick fruit, the pigs move bales of hay etc ...

**THE STORY **
The story starts with Fergus sitting in the farmyard watching three pigs walk past. Yes, they really are walking to bed and don't have time to stop to speak to Fergus.
Fergus watches them go into the barn, followed by the hens and ducks. Overcome with curiosity, Fergus goes inside and sees cow sitting on a bale of hay telling the animals a story. It's a strange fact but children don't seem to question why the animals are sitting down but rather comment that it's like when they are told a story by their teacher.
Fergus realises they are being told a ghost story, and because he thinks they are silly and not scary, he wanders off to his kennel. Suddenly, he hears a TAP TAP ...
