Disadvantages: Far too vague

Oracle – A Beginners Guide – attempts to explain all the areas of Oracle under one cover, and doesn’t do a very good job about it. While it gives a fairly decent background into Oracle, and has separate chapters on Installation, SQL, PL/SQL, Forms, DBA and Tuning, each chapter is very vague and not dealt with in any great depth. Advantages: Contains everything you could possibly want to know in the Final Fantasy X universe.

Great Beginners Guide

Advantages: Brilliant for beginners
Disadvantages: Quickly out grown.

Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes is a great beginners training book. It covers the very basic's of SQL that someone just starting out would need to know. It also does an excellent job of using analogies to communicate why syntax and statement layout is important.
