Advantages No cleaning afterward
Disadvantages Nowhere to keep things warm
As far as I am concerned the worst part of a barbecue is having to clear up afterwards. There is all the charcoal to get rid of, but the worst part of all has to be cleaning the actual barbecue itself. This product takes out that part of the cleaning, as it is totally disposable. Yes that’s right. There’s no grill to clean and no ash flying around everywhere. You just let it cool down and, once it’s cold, it just goes in a black rubbish bag, or if you are in a good area, in a wheelie bin. Much better than all that scrubbing that ruins the finger nails! Thus the joy of Cumberland sausages, big burgers and chicken pieces with rolls and every kind of salad can be enjoyed to the full. At least that is what we did last night.
AvailabilityThese barbecues can be found in many supermarkets, and even on the front of garage forecourts on hot days. The one I used actually came from Tescos and cost £5.49 but I understand they can be found cheaper elsewhere. My own experience however is with the Tesco own brand barbecue.
CharacteristicsThe outside packaging is very easy to take off, and when it is removed, a silver foil container is revealed which holds the charcoal. This is covered by the grill on which the cooking is done. It sounds very simple, and for once, is actually that easy!
Ease of useIt was extremely easy to light the charcoal, even though there was quite a breeze blowing. It flamed for a while and then quietened to that glow which says it is ready to cook. The packaging says that it will cook for one and a half hours and that is just about right. It’s a pleasant change to find something that actually does what it says in the instructions. The grill is a very nice size, and will quite easily fit about 7-8 large burgers or about 14 sausages in one go. This was plenty for us.
ProblemsThe main problem was that there is nowhere to put the food when it is cooked to keep it warm. Some barbecues have a higher level, which nicely keeps the food warm, but this one is just very simple. There is no higher level. Other than this, I didn’t come across any problems with the barbecue at all.
ConclusionsFor a family or group of 4-6 this is ideal but I think for a real party more than one would be necessary. I would certainly use one of these again and I recommend them to other people to use.
