If, like me, you have spent hours searching for car insurance online you will know how frustrating it can be. Some of the bigger names seem to have almost identical forms to fill in, and at the end of a long, drawn out session come back with almost identical quotes!

Our old insurance policy ceased when the insurance company was taken over, and “motor insurance did not form part of the new owner’s profile”. I have spent over eight hours researching online car insurance, and it was one of the most frustrating experiences you could imagine – enough to put off any feint-hearted newcomer to the Internet, and send them packing down to their local insurance broker!

Eventually, I came across insurancevillage.co.uk.
Insurance Village a friendly site, the home of a complete online insurance provider that acts as an independent intermediary for many insurance companies.
Their customer questionnaire is split up into a number of pages, making it a very simple process to complete.
Once completed, Insurance Village returns a wide range of quotes from a huge selection of well-known insurance companies.
There is no waiting for the postman, or for emails to arrive – this is an instant service.
The cheapest quote that Insurance Village returned was £470 less that the best “big name” quote that we had. Was this possible?
The same insurance company, by coincidence, was already insuring another car for us, so we were familiar with the name.
However, the price was so low we decided to click the “Call Me” button so that we could check with an advisor.
The phone rang minutes later and our call was dealt with quickly and efficiently, confirming that the price quoted was correct. We were given the opportunity to buy, there and then, on the phone, but decided to complete the purchase online.
Within a few minutes we received a telephone call advising us that the insurance was in place and that the documents would be dispatched very soon.
They arrived next working day, complete with cover note and receipt. There was a stamped addressed envelope for the form we had to sign, and they asked for proof of our no claims bonus.
It was that simple, and that cheap.
If you want to save a lot of money on motor insurance, but do not have the patience to spend eight frustrating hours doing the research, I suggest you head straight to insurancevillage.co.uk – They make many other online insurers look very stupid, and very expensive!
Advantages: Overall good service level Disadvantages: Couple of niggles with claim
or the premium was extortionate as I had claimed within the 12 months, it did not matter that prior to that I had had 14 years of never making a claim. I had used all of the comparison sites to no avail and even started ringing companies direct where I started to get more reasonable quotes when my mother suggested ringing the NFU Insurance.
For those that do not know NFU Insurance is the National Farmers Union Insurance company, their head office is in Tiddington a village 1.5 miles outside of Stratford On Avon, I know this because it is the village I grew up in and I used to work for them when I was a student and my mother worked for them for twenty five years. I arranged the insurance over the phone and found the staff ember I spoke to very helpful.
They agreed to give me the equivalent of a four years no claim bonus which reduced my premium ...

Advantages: Cheap, free phone number Disadvantages: Poor customer service
When I bought my last car, I shopped around for the cheapest car insurance possible and Hastings Direct came up with having the cheapest quote, so they got my business.
My car was a cheap little run around, something to get me from A to B. It was a VW Polo, J reg, 1.0l and cost me £500 in 2002.
I decided to opt for Third Party Fire and Theft, and I had the option of paying monthly (with interest) or pay up for the whole year.
Being a single parent, I couldn't afford to pay the whole amount, so I ended up paying £16 a month, Direct Debit.
All went well initially, the payments came out of the bank on the date they said they would, no complaints so far.
Then, in 2004, I moved from a big town to a small village, just 10 miles down the road. So I thought i'd better inform my insurance company of this change, thinking that ...
Advantages: Telephone Banking, Internet, Branch, Cash Machines Disadvantages: They hassle you to get more of their products
I will tell all about the Halifax Offers and then I will personally write about what I think of them at the end.
I have been with the Halifax for around 7 years or so and prior to that was with them for around 4 years.
This is an introduction to their accounts and how you can bank with them.
I want a bank account, How do I open it?
----------------------------------------
First of all unless you specifically know what you want then I would advise you to go into a local branch. Most branches are in towns and village and are quite easily accesible.
Make sure you take various documentation like your old bank details and statements and National Insurance card or Driving Licence or Passport. Something that has your photo on and signature. Also take with you a birth/marriage certificate.
Make an appointment to see someone ...
