Backing up my files 25 of 25 Ciao Users found the following review helpful

Advantages Funky, cheap, it works

Disadvantages None

I finally bought my first ever flash drive earlier on this year. It suddenly dawned on me that I had thousands and thousands of sentimental family photos saved on my laptop and although I had printed most of them, I hadn't backed them up. Therefore I ordered myself a Kingston Data Traveller version from Amazon. Whilst waiting for it to arrive, my laptop died! It could not be repaired and I was pretty gutted to be honest - what awful timing! However, I certainly learned my lesson, especially because there was a lot of work for my dissertation saved on the latop which I of course had not backed up.

Therefore, I thought I would keep the flash drive I had already bought for new photos and order myself a new one for all of my uni work. I knew I wanted one that looked quite cool, after all I was going to be using it most days. As pink is my favourite colour I searched for a pink one and a few different ideas came up. This one shown above seemed to be the one that represented the best value for money so I opted for this one which cost me around £7 for a 4gb drive.

The item arrived quickly and I was eager to get it open to back up some of the work I had done since replacing my laptop. It came in plastic packaging which was easy enough to open with some scissors and I think this had instructions on the back but I didnt need this so I just plugged the drive straight in.

I really like the look of the drive, it is simple but bright pink and also quite small (about 3-4 cm long, 1cm wide and half a cm deep). There is a removable cap to put on when it is not in use to keep the dust and dirt out and there is a space at the end so it can be attatched to a keyring or a lanyard if you wanted to. It is a brighter pink than in the picture and more neon.

As soon as I plugged it in my laptop recognised it and it took a few seconds sorting out software for it. It was then ready to use. I renamed the name so I could find it easily on my list of computer files, this was easy to do.

To save data to the drive, you simply go to save as you would normally and select your flash drive to save to rather than the hard drive of the computer. This is really easy and when the drive is in use (eg. things are being saved to it) it flashes red. I find this really useful as now I am quite paranoid about saving my work so when this flashes I know I have done so. The files save really quickly and the save is always complete within about 2-3 seconds.

I have quite a bit saved on my drive now, I have 5 different folders on it and in each one I have a few essays saved along with other bits and bobs. This has left me with 3.72gb worth of storage left so theres plenty of room left on it for me to use up.

I have never had a problem with this drive and I have used it most days for a few months now. When I want to use it, I simply plug it in and it brings up all my files. I've never had a problem with it not being found on the laptop and never lost any files so for the £7 I think its great value for money and it certainly puts my mind at ease, especially with all these deadlines looming.
