Although I now have a laptop with a built-in card reader I have found the Integral USB 2.0 Single Slot SD Reader a huge help in the past with the transfer of data from my digital camera to my Home PC or laptop. If you do not have a computer with a built-in card reader then you will certainly benefit from using this product if you own a digital camera or other device which is compatible with an SD Card. SD Cards are a popular form of data storage for images, and instead of needing to have your device cable to hand you can instead carry this rather compact product around instead.
Integral USB 2.0 Single Slot SD Reader
First impressions are that this device is quite basic. The plain white casing of the SD Card reader is finished off with 'Integral' branding in black, and directions for how to insert your SD Card into the slot. To the end of the SD Card reader we have the familiar USB 2.0 plug, allowing you to easily connect it to your Home PC or laptop. As this is a basic model there is no fancy solution to hiding away and protecting the USB connector, though this is the only negative point I can find regarding the design.
As this is a basic SD Card reader it is very simple to understand. Operation is a doddle, and you just have to insert your SD card into the reader, then pop it into a USB slot on your laptop or Home PC and away you go. Due to the increased transfer speed of the USB 2.0 technology, transferring data from the card to the reader (and vice versa) is brisk. Once I have connected the device and SD card i just simply click on 'Start' on the homepage, followed by 'Computer'. The SD Card can then be accessed through 'Removable Storage'. Here, you can access the files on the SD card and are able to edit, open, add or delete data according to your needs.
The compact design is very simple, though this suited my needs when I used to use it on a very regular basis. The product is very durable and hard-wearing, and even after a couple of years of use I still get a speedy rate of transfer to this day. Measuring a minute 7cm x 3cm x 1cm it is very portable indeed, though losing it can be easier due to this!
Price and availability
Available online the Integral USB 2.0 Single Slot SD Reader can be picked up for around the £2-£3 mark. This is very reasonable, and you would be forgiven for thinking that Integral would have produced a poor quality solution that lasts 5 minutes. I imagine the low price is due to the falling demand for such products as technology is always moving at a fast pace.
If you have a digital camera with an SD card then this reader could well be for you. if you don't have a computer with a built-in car reader then this further increases your need for the product. Do away with the data cables which always get tangled up and are bulky, and instead use let Integral take care of your data transfer requirements. Although it is priced extremely affordably, this product will only read SD cards, and with so many other options available it may be worth buying a multi-format reader according to your needs.
