    Integral SDHC 16GB Class 10...

Integral SDHC 16GB Class 10 and Transcend SDHC 8GB Class 6 comparative review

The test was repeated twice to ensure consistency. I copied a folder of 16 files totaling 1130 MB. The time taken for the Integral card was 95 seconds (write) and 70 seconds (read). This gives a write speed of 11.89 MB/s and a read speed of 16.14 MB/s for the Integral card. Using exactly the same methodology the Transcend card gave a write speed of 8.76 MB/s and a read speed of 17.94 MBps.

This result seems slow for a class 10 card but it is within the minimum specification laid down for such a card however Transcend's Class 6 card seems to perform extremely well, particularly in it's read speed. The Integral's read speed is far below the "up to 23 MB/s" claim and is even slower than the Transcend card's read speed (17.94 MB/s). Furthermore the Integral card is new and the older Transcend card has had considerable use. Also the test I have used is a group of large files which favors higher speeds for both cards.

Results table using Integral's SDHC USB 2.0 card reader...
..................................Write......................Read
Integral Class 10............11.89 MB/s.............16.14 MB/s
Transcend Class 6.........8.76 MB/s..............17.94 MB/s

Are these results representative of the Integral or do I have a poor sample?

I contactaed Integral's UK distributors who asked me to send the card to them for testing. They informed me that there were no problems with the card's read or write speeds but that they would send me a replacement and a new SDXC USB 2.0 card reader. I tested the new card exactly as above as well as with the new card reader.

Here are the results, Integral Class 10...

.......................PREVIOUS CARD................NEW CARD..................NEW CARD
.......................SDHC reader........................SDHC reader...............SDXC reader
Write.............11.89 MB/s.............................14.87 MB/s...................15.48 MB/s
Read............16.14 MB/s.............................17.66 MB/s...................18.83 MB/s

Conclusion
The new Integral card is 25 % faster at writing and 10 % faster at reading than the previous new Integral card. Also the new card reader is a little faster than the older SDHC one. There will inevitably be sample variations with any manufactured product but this variation particularly in the write perfomance seems very large to me! The transcend card although three years old and with constant use in a digital camera has proven both reliable and fast for it's class.
