♦How I got this product♦

I’ve used this motherboard for less than about four months or less, and its one of the best products that I’ve ever brought by far, in terms of quality and the price I paid for it. Around four months ago I was looking for a new mother board, something like my old one, fast, reliable and most of all, quite expensive and that I could afford.

I set myself a budget of around nine hundred pounds, I like spending our large amounts of money on computer equipment from time to time, I thought that I would be able to find something very quickly, and buy it quickly as well.

I looked around for ages, through online shops, local shops and every other place that you can imagine or think of. I finally found it on a site, savastore.com, for about £941.60, including postage and packaging it cam to £948.60, and it came very quickly to my door in the next couple of days.

♦When in came and what came in the box♦

I was ever so excited when it came, I know I’m sad, but it was great, really. The box was quite large about the size of one and a half cereal boxes, and had some logos on the front and some specifications for the main board.

The box contained…

♦The main motherboard, I’ll explain the features all in one section in a minute.
♦Some installation CDs, containing all the necessary drivers
♦All the guides a man would ever need and then some…
♦And loads of wires, IDE, Power cables and the rest

The install CDs contained all of the software and utilities that you would need to get you computer up and running in seconds. The install process was very quick, after I had installed all of the main hardware, which did take quite long, and I had installed the main operating system.

I have had loads of experience installing hardware onto a motherboard from scratch so I knew what to do to begin with, I had my fair share of problems but hey, who doesn’t? Some of my old hardware didn’t work, so I have left it our for now, but all of my newest hardware worked fine, like my stick of 4GB ram and my new soundcard (review to follow soon!)

Because this board only supports a maximum of 4GB of ram, I was lucky since some of the boards that you can buy only support a small amount of am, so you get many problems from the start. Older hardware, like old soundcards don’t work so well with this board, and some older video cards.

The wires that came with this motherboard were useful, since I didn’t have all of the wires that I needed to set it up, so these came in handy in the end.

♦Why did I need this and what persuaded me to buy it ♦

Well, as I have said before in my other reviews, I do a lot of image, video and audio editing, so I need the speed and reliability that my old motherboard did not have, so I looked for this one instead.

I needed something that was going to be able to handle large data, and be able to handle it at very fast speeds as well. I really was starting to get annoyed with my old motherboard, it was slow, unreliable, didn’t support the newest hardware and most of all, didn’t support my graphics card, which, after all , was the most important thing.

As I said above, I needed to change very quickly as I had brought loads of new hardware, and I needed something to support it all, so I went for this little marvel, the Intel Desktop Board D865GBFLK, I was very happy about the price as well.

So I went straight for it and brought it, I did look at the specifications though, just to check if they supported my processor, ram and everything else.

♦ Details ♦

This board supports Celeron and Pentium four processors, and with a BUS speed of 800 MHz (max), you will be astounded by the speeds that this processor can support, and with the BIOS setting for hyper-threading technology, you’ll get even faster speeds. This board supports one processor max, with none coming with it; you need to buy your own.

The ram type in this board id DDR SDRAM, supporting memory of up to 4GB, and with two slots, you can upgrade loads with this board. This ram in this computer is fast as well, supporting speeds of up to DDR400/PC3200, you will never be let down by performance, speed and reliability. I really think that this is useful, as most of the ram nowadays is DDR, so is much faster anyway.

The storage in this computer supports CD drives, hard drives, CD+RW, DVD+RW, floppy disk and all other major and third party IDE controllers and devices. The main storage controller on this is a Serial ATA, so you can rest assured that you current hard drive will still work at maximum speeds, compared to older interfaces that only supported the minimum speeds of this one. The second controller is an IDE interface, still supporting a large amount of IDE controllers and devices and still maximising performance all at once, the controller interface name is a DMA/ATA-100 (Ultra).

Coming with a built in shared memory device for graphics and video, you can’t really go wrong for a basic setup of devices and the main graphics controller, hosting an Intel 865G processor, you cant go wrong for basic video output to monitors and such like.

For basic audio, this board comes with a simple sound out put and input system, for those of you who want to get you system setup-up for non productive environments and basic system requirements reach this target level of sound. And it complies with standards AC '97 for optimal performance.

And for gigabyte Ethernet and home networking, both of which are the same, this board comes with a basic networking adaptor for simple networking uses, such as ICS and file sharing protocols and very basic DNS servers, you can be sure that DHP is enabled as soon as you set this one up.

The BIOS features a new feature, the hyper threading technology settings page, so you can optimise the performance of you system in no time at all. With all the basic options to set you system up in not time at all, you really cant go wrong with this board.

The basic slots on the main board are as follows, 1 x processor - Socket 478 ,1 x AGP 8x (so it takes full advantage of newer graphics cards.),6 x PCI for basic cards and adaptors,4 x memory for all the ram upgrades that you could possibly need.

The following interfaces are on this board as follows,

Serial - Hi-Speed USB - 4 PIN USB Type A
2 x storage - Serial ATA-150 - 7 pin Serial ATA
Storage - DMA/ATA-100 (Ultra) - 40 PIN IDC
1 x storage - floppy interface - 34 PIN IDC
1 x network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T - RJ-45

♦What I think of this board and a little evaluation♦

This board, with its extensive range of absolutely brilliant features is very good for everyday use and maybe small productive environments, such as small business and work places.

I have been using this board for well over three months or so, and I have not noticed on e little change in performance from the day that I brought this motherboard, or any of the features and interfaces that it came with.

This is suitable for small business, home, and productive sues, highly recommended to all.

Thanks for reading, happy clicking ☺
