...I wrote this a while, back so I am now publishing it on ciao but it is still fairly up to date. I spend a long time writing this. 1 hour:
After a simultaneous processor release early in 2002, both Intel and AMD are settling back into the standard pattern of trying to beat the other to the punch. Intel impressed us with the Pentium4 Northwood, as well as jumping a full 200 MHz with the Pentium4-2.2GHz. AMD followed this up with their Athlon XP 2100+, which once again had the juice to slip by the fastest Intel had to offer.
The last shot was fired by AMD, so naturally it should be Intel's chance to step up to the plate. And from first glance, Intel seems to be carrying a mighty big bat. With the release of the Pentium4-2.4GHz we're seeing yet another 200 MHz speed increase from Intel, which puts even more pressure on the Athlon XP...

...the differences. For example, the difference between a Pentium II and a Katmai class Pentium III is simply the inclusion of SSE instructions, and in some cases, higher clock speeds. The difference between the Katmai Pentium III and the Coppermine Pentium III is in the integrated L2 cache, and datapaths to the cache. This is because all IntelProcessors introduced after the Pentium Pro used the same processor core, they just taught it new tricks. This is not the case with the Pentium4. The Pentium4 is the first processor of an entirely new generation, therefore the differences between the new Intel top of the line processor, and it's predecessors are more numerous than in past product upgrades.
Hyper Pipelined Technology
Aside from the obvious difference in clock speeds, a major archetectural difference between generations of Intelprocessors...

Advantages: 3.0 GHZ processor, Hyper Threading Technology, 800FSB, 2mb Cache Disadvantages: Supplied Hetsink, fiddly, annoying and not that good
...The intelpentium4 is equipped with 64bit technology which is equipped for future applications.
It has hyperthreading tehnology which allows calculations to be done twice as fast.
I have found that it runs quite hot, mine runs about 60'c which im not sure is healthy, however this may be because i have not fitted the annoying heatsink properly. However it runs fine at 60'c so im not sure how much of a problem it really is.
The processor is an Overclockers Dream!, many people have pushed this chip all the way up to 3.9ghz i have also read somewhere that an intelpentium4 was pushed up to 6ghz! this was with water cooling however!
A problem i found witht the processor is the supplied Fan its so hard to fit, you only get this type of fan with the 775 processor so be warned it is fidally and annoying!! also try and fit the fan...
