Advantages: very fast, reliable Disadvantages: pricey, need to have IT knowledge
...This dual 2GHZ core processor with combined speed of 4Ghz and a 4Mb Cache makes a very fast pc and will cope easily with many demanding programs running at once. There are probably better deals for the same or better processors, but you are paying for the quality, many dont have a high 4Mb cache. This would be most recommend for IT technicians or people who know what they are doing.
The main let down of this is the variation in the price, while this may be good, you dont want to be paying too much when you can get a compute just as good for the same high price or cheaper. But as i said before, if you can get a good deal, and know what your talking about, this is most recommended...

The Intel Xeon processor for workstations featuring the Intel NetBurst micro-architecture offers outstanding performance for multithreaded applications in a multitasking environment. The Intel Xeon processor is ideal for compute intensive and heavy workload applications that require floating-point performance and the intense use of graphics for design. The Intel Xeon processor features a 400 MHz front side bus, dual channel RDRAM memory and the Intel 860 chipset, which provides the bandwidth and performance throughput to deliver streaming audio/video and online collaboration. For your demanding application needs, Intel Xeon processor-based workstations provide the ideal solution. The Intel NetBurst microarchitecture is the latest, true microarchitectural design from Intel that implements the IA-32 architecture. This microarchitecture, along with several extensions to the IA-32 architecture, has been designed not only to increase the raw instruction processing speed of IA-32 processors but also to unleash the richness of the visual Internet. The Intel NetBurst microarchitecture allows the Intel Xeon processor and Pentium 4 processor to deliver this next-generation performance so it can be fully experienced and appreciated by the user rather than focusing on simply speeding up applications.

Advantages: Established, good value, stable, large L2 cache Disadvantages: Not the cheapest nor the best performing
...This processor, based on the highly successful Pentium III core is well established in servers - the large (up to 2mb) L2 cache allows good server performance for multiple users. It can be used in dual or quad array, and currently is available in speeds of up to 800mhz. New competitors in the field, including P4 Xeon and AMD MP Athlon 'Palomino' may be ahead in terms of performance, but currently P4 Xeons cost the earth, and P4 is doubted to be much better performers than PIII anyway. The AMDs are currently unreleased to the market, therefore leaving the PIII to take up the slack in small server markets. Its core enhances over the PII Xeon make it a more viable option, and price drops to keep the PIII competitive with AMD and P4 make it economically sensible. The PIII's stability (key feature for a server) plays an important role...

As a gamer, I needed the best processor out there. Searching around, the only real debate in this price range was whether to go for the E6850, a dual core CPU, or the Q6600, a quad core at a lower clock. After looking at many different benchmarks and... more
