I am writing to complain about my current experiences with IF.
This week I have been away travelling on business. Upon arrival at the hotel to my surprise my credit card was being declined. Obviously this has to be some kind of mistake, as I am well aware there are more than enough funds available to cover this transaction. Reviewing the back of the card, I noticed a contact number, which I proceeded to call. "All our offices are closed, please call back" is the response I received. Then I noticed a lost and stolen number, which I then tried: "We only handle lost and stolen cards, you will have to call the 24hr help line here is the number....". Having received the help line number from this chap, I gave that a call: "All our offices are closed, please call back". So here I am unable to check into my hotel, and no way to get any resolution to resolve my credit card issue. The following morning I call IF to resolve the issue, only to be told that IF have cancelled my card!! Obviously this was a shock, as I had no idea!! After prompting for a reason, I was told that IF can not handle the change to chip & pin, so all cards were cancelled! Also that I would have received an information pack explaining what was about to happen (WHICH I DID NOT GET). I asked "but my card does not expire until 2006" only to get the response "That doesn't matter it has been cancelled anyway and can not be reactivated", and I would have to wait for an application for a new card which I will fill in and then wait approx 2 weeks to get my new card!!
This type of service is completely unacceptable by any standard! I will not be getting any kind of credit card or financial products from IF ever!! And I will make sure that none of my friends / family and colleagues do. I also have a mortgage with you, which I am currently looking into switching to a competitor!
This situation has really highlighted the lack of customer service and care provided by IF!
I doubt this email will even go anywhere that really matters, as that seems to be the level at which IF operates.
Advantages: Ease of Checking account Disadvantages: trying to remember all the password and plan numbers
I couldn;t actually find the IF card in the credit card section so here it is. If you are looking for a credit card then look no further than IF. At a rate of 8/9% and 10.9% for cash withdrawls. I would say IF is one of the best out there. I got declined for so many cards when i was trying to change from my old one (nat west), but IF gave me one straight away. You have to keep entering all details on website and can't disappear to make a coffee as ... ...again. But once you get the hang of it, its ok. They dont have all the extras that i got with my last card, free travel insurance discounted deals etc.. but its ok for what i want. I went away to france shopping and the exchange rate i got one my card was better than the one I'd bought some cash with at the post office the day before..the rates dont change that much!!
Bad thing though is trying to remeber all the security questions they ask you ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Intelligent Finance Credit Card"
Advantages: Convenience and value Disadvantages: No branch - if you like that sort of thing !
I have a current account with IntelligentFinance. It pays me 5% interest.
I am also going to apply for a creditcard before Xmas though which charges 10.8%.
Generally my current account balance is roughly the same as my creditcard (which is with Abbey at about 17/18% at the moment) and because of the way the IF plan works this means I will apparently pay next to nothing on my creditcard because my current account balance will cancel out my debt. Seems fair to me !
What I like particularly about this set up is that I will be able to view both of these account balances at once on the web with only one password and if need be transfer money between them to get best value for myself. I have a number of internet based bank accounts and out of all of them this one seems to offer best value and convenience so far.

Advantages: Good rates of interest, all products with one bank Disadvantages: No high street branches
When I got my first internet enabled computer nearly three years ago, I decided to go mad and apply for many different creditcards on many different websites. Most refused me, but one that accepted was IntelligentFinance. I was, well to put it simply, chuffed to be accepted for my first creditcard and decided to open a current and savings account at the same time.
The Bank
***********
Launched in 2000, IntelligentFinance is a web and phone based bank, so there are no high street branches. However, as a division of Halifax PLC they do have big name backing, which as I'm sure you realise, makes for piece of mind.
The Website

The web site is clearly laid out in quite eye pleasing purple tones. There are links to all the products, with demonstrations of how much you could save if you switch accounts ...
Advantages: Maximise the use of your hard earned cash Disadvantages: No physical branch
Recently I opened up an account with IntelligentFinance, my account includes a current account facility as well as a creditcard. I must admit that I was a little wary at the outset as I had read that Halifax had postponed the launch of IF on a couple of occasions but I was intrigued by some of the promotional material and by the concept of reducing the interest you pay on the money you borrow.
The whole application process was relatively painless and carried out efficiently. The current account comes with an impressive interest rate at about 7% I think and you get a cheque book, which for me was a must. The way that IF works is to connect your savings with your borrowings. Savings and borrowings are kept in separate jars and you can elect to either maximise your savings or minimise the cost of your borrowings. The linked website ...
