Lloyds TSB admin meltdown - is it safe to bank with them?
Advantages: good, clear website. reasonable rates and charges Disadvantages: Poor support, no communication between departments, worrying security lapses
Having banked with LLoyds for 27 years, I am now seriously considering whether to move my money elsewhere. Post "credit crunch" , the powers at LTSB clearly thought that, instead of looking at their own failings, they would respond to the financial crisis by shedding thousands of experienced staff doing the day-to-day admin of the bank, relying on cheaper costing minions who frankly haven`t a clue instead.
In the last few weeks, LTSB have "lost" ... ...to what had actually happened. (this included the one that paid off my LTSB credit card bill, with the bank charging me a late-payment fee - because I "failed to clear my bill" - ridiculous).
More worryingly, I also received a text from them, telling me that my debit card had been used fraudulently abroad, and was told that this was my fault, and that I must have given my details to someone online.
Apart from their rudeness, it turned out that there ...

A fantastic banking service
Advantages: So quick Disadvantages: Sometimes down
...have been a member on HSBC online banking for quite a while now - so long that I can't remember! Probably at least 2 years, so I must admit I'm not hot on how long it takes them to send you all your login details but as far as I remember it wasn't too long. I am also an online banking member of Barclays, Abbeys, Tesco Personal Finance, ING and Yorkshire Bank so I think I have a good view of comparing them! You need an IB (internet banking number) ... ...things to me about using HSBC as an online bank is that nearly every payment I make will come into my account of go into the other persons account instantly. This is soooo useful when transferring money inbetween two accounts. Another important factor is that I find when I request a replacement card or my card expires and I get a new one I have to set internet banking up again. An absolute joke, but with HSBC I have had loads of cards and I have ...

What's happened to First Direct - their crap!!!
Advantages: Were a good bank 10 years ago Disadvantages: Too many to name
I have been with first direct for many, many years now and i have noticed that in the last 12 months they have really gone down hill. Their charges have increased over the years - their "free" £250 over draft is not so free now (ie they will charge an annual £25 fee if you extend/use/dare to disobey their rules!! But of course this is all stated in the terms and conditions booklet you receive every few weeks with amends to it (although amends rarely ... ...I'm at Sainsburys in the first place is not to buy booze (like an 18 year old would!) but to buy food and pay my fecking gas bill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idiots!! I suppose when you are a teenager living at home with mummy and daddy then life still smells of roses!
On that note I will be moving to another useless bank, but at least they won't pretend to be nice while slapping your arse with yet another £25 charge!
FD...I bid you fairwell. ...
