Manufacturer's product description
Simple, cost effective storage - Iomega's 360 GB - 3.5" Hard Drive is an affordable way to save your precious memories - save up to 1,440,000 photos, 6,660 hours of music, or 540 hours of video. Not only is this drive economical but it is very easy-to-use and preformatted for simple set up - just plug and play.
Advantages: Easy installation, looks good, ease of use Disadvantages: None found
...I've bought two of these drives now and am very impressed. On opening the box you'll find the following: The drive itself, power supply, USB cable and an instruction leaflet.
The drive feels solid and well built, although the aluminium case does have some sharp edges near the front where it joins the plastic bezel.
The drive comes formatted to FAT32, but this is easily changed to NTFS.
Being a curious sort, I took one apart to find out the manufacturer of the actual drive inside and was happy to find a Seagate Barracuda, not the bottom of the range drive I was expecting!
Installation under Windows XP/Vista is a doddle, just plug in the power cable, plug in the USB cable, switch it on and it's automatically detected and ready to go.
In use, both drives have proved very reliable, and although transfer speeds over USB 2...

Advantages: a good alternative product Disadvantages: n/a
...A better looking model from Iomega than the 500 GB model, this is a safe solid bet for a harddrive that won't let you down. In testing it performed well and did not overheat or become slow due to the rate of transfer.
Design
The portable harddrive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It's about 20 cms long and 10 in depth and weighs a fair bit. It is a desktopdrive and can't really be moved around due to its size.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 20 minutes i was backing up my files.
Performance
Performance is good for a portable hard disk, and there was no real difference in speed between the two interfaces. T
Features
It doesn't ship with backup software, just file-synchronisation software...

Advantages: Capacity Disadvantages: Produces a lot of heat / can be quite noisy
...I bought one of these to solve my storage problem and also to help transferring files between different computers. It has never failed me, and is usable as soon as you plug it in basically!
It has however, eliminated the need to use a heater in my room in winter: while this monster harddrive can store pretty much anything you throw at it, it also produces the heat to match. If using it for long periods of time, it can also be quite noisy. I also feel that an alternative form of connectivity other than USB would be useful, but not essential. I do not really like the design of the casing either, but that isn't really important as it can just be put on a shelf out of the way!
On a whole, it is a relatively cheap storage option, but it can really heat up your workstation!...
