Iomega's ZipCD external USB drive is a fast, versatile solution for all of your multimedia, backup, and storage needs. Record everything from important work presentations to your favorite music CDs on write-once CD-R media, which are perfect for long-term archiving, and also record, erase, and re-record up to 1, 000 times on the same CD-RW media, which means you can constantly update and modify your files. The ZipCD combines quality and performance with user-friendly features and a generous software package. It includes a USB interface, which makes it hot-swappable between any Windows 98 machine, a large buffer, which eliminates buffer underrun and prevents wasted media, and comes complete with everything you need to start using your new CD-RW drive. The software bundle includes Iomega Quik Sync, which automatically backs up files without interrupting your work, Adaptec Easy CD Creator, which formats and burns CDs in one simple step, Adaptec DirectCD, which allows you to drag and drop files, Adobe Photoshop Limited Edition, which allows you to alter and enhance images, and Avery Media, for printing CD labels and jewel case inserts.

...This Iomega Rewriter is a good little piece of machinery, but it does takes it time when burning. Its supposed to take a few minutes to burn a music disc, although it took 20 minutes for an average length CD.

Installing the product will take the best part of 45minutes, it comes up with junk about not being compatatible with you operating system when it clearly is. Registering the product can be annoying as well because it asks for information you will not want to give (phone number, address etc.)

Burning can take up to and around 20 mins for about 20 3 minute tracks. Selecting what you want put on the CD is a confusing process. As you have to individual copy and paste each song rather than clicking on it and getting it on the cd straight away.

Advantages: Quality Build, No messing inside your PC, Bundled Software Disadvantages: Maybe a bit pricey.
...Having only a 52xCD rom in my rather dull (but quite adequate) IBM workstation I was missing the ability to burn cd’s backing up data important data that I could with previous machines.
Not fancying taking the lid of, and removing fiddly blanking plates - scraping skin off my thumbs, I decided upon the external USB approach, since like most, the PC is equipped with a fast USB2.0 interface.
The IomegaCD-RW 48x24x48x USB 2.0 drive appeared to be a good choice, Iomega being a well trusted and reliable manufacturer. I paid around £60 , but you may find it cheaper if you shop around. I did come across lesser brands with a similar spec at lower prices, but I felt they would lack the quality.

...OK, OK, there are faster CD-RW out there and of course there are now DVD-R that give you that extra bit of storage but this little beauty is just what the doctor ordered.
TDK have managed to deliver a great package here both with hardware and the software supplied. They have released faster versions which will please all you speed freaks out there, but with a limited budget and not wanting something so flashy it even makes me a cup of tea in the morning, I settled for this model.
