Advantages: Can be used virtually anywhere, is backed by a well known bank, getting ipoints for normal purchases Disadvantages: usual high interest rates, risk of losing all loyalty earnings if scheme goes bust

I know I was as I dont have a Halifax credit card. It wasnt until I read the transactions I realised it was the ipoints card.

Because it is issued by Visa it has all the normal Visa advantages -acceptable in thousands of places in the UK & worldwide, cash advances and so on.
The credit card is a fairly standard offering with the option to transfer your balance from another credit card ( but no points are awarded for this ). 3.9% APR introductory rate for 5 months on transfered balances, 17.9% APR after that ( 18.5% for cash advances).
Cash withdrawals attract a 2% advance fee (minimum £2.00) which is about average. Like most banks, when you use the card abroad there is a loading charge (2.75%), so the money charged to your account is more than the exact sterling equivalent.
They give an Online fraud guarantee which is good but hopefully you will never use it. As well as that they have a 24 hour, 7 days a week customer helpline and you can also download and view your statement online
There is no annual fee at present but other fees are.
Late or failure to pay charge £12 Returned payment charge £12 Overlimit charge £12 Returned credit card cheque charge £ 12.00. Duplicate statement up to £5
They used to give you credit card cheques - for purchases that you could not normally use a credit card for but this has now been stopped.
One small snag is the statement. It doesnt actually have the ipoints name or logo on it, just the Halifax one so the first time you see it you might be confused. I know I was as I dont have a Halifax credit card. It wasnt until I read the transactions I realised it was the ipoints card.
A fairly decent initial bonus of 200 points is on offer for succesfully applying for this and then afterwards you receive 1% of your spending back in points. After a year if you spend £2500 you will get a further free 100 ipoints. If you double dip, that is use your card at stores that give you ipoints for purchases the rewards soon mount up.
Ipoints works by giving you ipoints for clicking though emails to visit various web sites, as loyalty points when making a purchase, by registering on various linked sites, by using a particular search engine, by buying goods, signing up for various newsletters, entering competitions, answering surveys.......... See my review of ipoints for full details of how ipoints works.
Redeeming the points is very easy, there is a wide range of stores, attractions, gifts and web sites you can use.
Considering this has been around for over 5 years it tends to suggest that either the ipoints business plan has been sounder than many others of that internet boom era.
As with all reward schemes everyone has to face a choice - save for a big reward ie the 32" Flat screen tc at almost 13000 points or take little and often ie a CD from 101cd.com is 215 points which you will get almost immediately from getting the Visa card.
As for the credit card, yes it is a good one with a not bad rate of return of points and above average facilities and certainly if you dont mind putting all your eggs into one loyalty scheme then it is one to certainly think seriously about.
Advantages: World wide recogniion , good initial APR Disadvantages: Charges on cheques ,paying in opions at present.
...which spoils their novelty use.
Ipoints are earned at a rate of 10 per £100 spend on the card ( excluding balance transfers ) , so collectors of these will welcome them .
One bad point was the receiving of the first statement , just a week after receiving my card. Although it gives you time to pay , having only just received the card , you do not expect an immediate bill . A second bad point , which will soon be rectified ,or so your told ,is the ... ...any Halifax branch . Ipoints are placed - 'awaiting confirmation', on your Ipoint account immediately prior to your statement being despatched. They are usually confirmed and transferred for available spending approximately two weeks after payment of your last statement was made . ...

Advantages: very easy to use, the ipoints add up Disadvantages: another credit card means more debt!
I've had an ipoints credit card about 3 months, and I'm glad to say that the ipoints are really starting to add up.
For those of you who havent heard of ipoints, its a rewards programme like Air Miles where you earn ipoints when you shop with selected companies, and do other activities like registering with sites and reading emails.
By getting the ipoints credit card, you can still earn ipoints online as normal, but also earn ipoints whenever you ... ...ipoints when you first get the card (which took a while to enter my account, but was a good bonus when it did!), and they you earn ipoints depending on how much you spend on the card - the more you spend, the more ipoints you earn.
If you dont collect ipoints this card wont mean much to you, but if you ar a collecter, this is one of the easy ways to keep racking up those points
Features of the card are as follows:
3.9% APR introductory rate (fixed ...

Advantages: Easy application, Earn free ipoints, No problems at the ipoints end Disadvantages: High APR, Some problems at the Halifax end
linked to loyalty schemes I was already a member of and paid out regularly, rather than an annual cashback as most cards seemed to offer. This would give me tangible results quicker!
The ipoints credit card fitted this bill very well. There were no restrictions on who could apply in regards to income level, it was a VISAcard and therefore widely accepted, and the rewards would come in the form of ipoints: 100 for taking out and first using the card, and 1% of my spend (which works out as 1 ipoint per £10 spent on my card) added to my account on a monthly basis. For those of you unfamiliar with ipoints, they are an online currency that can be earned through actions such as shopping online, filling in surveys, clicking advertising links, and signing up for newsletters, which can then be redeemed for rewards. Currently, for example, you can ...
