I found myself without a vacuum cleaner and saw this one on offer for £79.99 +VAT at Makro. Not being fond of housework, I bought it. Downstairs, I have wood and tiled floors and the robot works a treat on these. They can be cleaned everyday without any effort which is great. It has a spot clean mode function so if it finds a bit of 'dirty' floor, it will focus on this area for longer than usual. I was worried about how well it would cope on my carpets upstairs, especially as I had spilled lots of little bits of paper from my shredder. I had short pile carpets and the vacuum managed fine - better than I expected - although it didn't clean the edges very well. I recently bought a deeper pile carpet for my bedroom and let the robot loose on this. It cleaned the carpet reasonably well but I could see 'little bits' on the carpet which the robot just couldn't cope with. I went over the floor again with an upright hoover I just bought and it was obvious that the robot just didn't have the same cleaning power.
It is very easy to use; just put it in the middle of the room and switch it on. Cleaning is easy too although hairs curled around the wheels can be difficult to remove. It's a lot quieter than a normal hoover; most of the noise comes from the motor driving the wheels and when it bumps into objects around the room (especially radiator pipes). The robot is supposed to have a sensor to stop it bumping into things but it will quite happily charge into people (although it doesn't hurt); this keeps the kids entertained as they step in and out of its way. The cats don't quite feel the same way and exit the room at the speed of light whenever it's switched on.
I either leave mine on charge and forget about it or forget to put it back on charge so it's flat when I want to use it. It takes a good few hours to charge up so I have a long while to wait if it isn't charged. When I first got it, the charge seemed to last for ages but after a few uses I left it on extended charge and now it doesn't seem to be able to manage more than one room on one charge although it is improving. If you use it regularly, this shouldn't be a problem.
Advantages: SMALL, LIGHT, WORKS FOR YOU Disadvantages: CAN TRIP YOU UP IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL
As the ?proud? owner of a Roomba I have to say that whilst it doesn't live up to it's hype, it certainly lived up to my expectations which were to have a 'cleaner' who would just 'run the hoover' over the floor while I was out at work during the week.
The thing to remember about these small (almost dinner plate size) robots is that they do not have the flexibility of a traditional hoover - no getting cobwebs from the ceiling or hoovering your sofa ... ...to make your life a bit easier I would have to give it a big 'Thumbs up'.
Whilst it can take over an hour to hoover a good sized room (I always leave mine running until the battery runs out) you have to remember that during this time you are off living your life.
Ok, it doesn't get into the corners and I am not certain that it actually cleans as close to the edge as I would like. But, for me, this does not matter. The weekend is when I like to ...

Advantages: Great concept - it does what it says on the box Disadvantages: Appalling reliability - it doesn't do it for long enough
This is a fantastic product if it would only keep going long enough to clean a room. Unit one - purchased in August 2008. Main vacuum motor failed in October 2008. Unit two - replaced in October 2008. Fault with brushes and carraige in March 2009. Unit three - replaced on 7th March 2009, failed next day on first clean of first room. Fault with main front bumper sensor. Unit four - there will not be a unit four - I will avoid in future Apparantly ... ...me it is too short - blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah - there that's about 120 ...

...What Is It?
The iRobotRoomba is one of the latest robots; built for busy people and to fit into peoples day-to-day lives. It is an automatic vacuum that runs efficiently, safely and effortlessly on its own. It uses technology that is used for bomb disposal robots in the armies all over the world.
Why Would You Buy It?
I got the iRobotRoomba recommended to me by a friend. I had gone over to her house and saw it vacuum the whole room while we were busy chatting! I sat watching it cleaning around the chairs, tables and even the lamps gracefully.
She was saying how useful it was and you could even go out shopping and you would come back to a vacuumed house. That was enough to convince me.
Other reasons to buy it would be if you have an older relative who finds it hard to clean the house then this would be perfect as...
