...two, didn’t she – was Isle of Jura. I’ve been trying to win a bottle of Isle of Jura single malt whisky for over a year now without success and after a year of visiting their site and reading the advertising my brain was washed and left me open to the power of suggestion. Why else would I let Mrs B browse unattended in the clothes section? But I’m glad I’ve been indoctorated into this malt.

FROM CLOWN TO DANDY
The whisky has a smooth easy taste that rolls easy around the mouth. The gentle aftertaste and burn adds to the reminiscence of pleasure and leaves the palate asking for more. The only thing I take this whisky with is another dram. It’s gentleness is attributed to the ... more
Whisky drinking is an occupational hazard of doing online competitions: not because of any stresses or strains. No, quite the opposite really. Loafing around on the net, visiting an assortment of websites, looking for competitions (I thoroughly recommend www.UKwins.co.uk) inevitably results in me being sidetracked and learning more about various products and services. Quite often, I’ve even been known to reach my hands into my deep pockets and shop on these sites, or pop to the second scary place - the supermarket (the first being the kitchen).
AS SURPRISING AS SHOPPING WITH AUTONS
Last week I must have being showing signs of anxiety whilst doing the Christmas shopping with Mrs B. She generously left me browsing the whisky section whilst she rushed off to the clothes section and bought two new wardrobes worth of clothes whilst my head was still whirling with the words “Why don’t you treat yourself to a new whisky or two!”
THE DOC STUMBLES OUT OF THE TARDIS
My first choice as I remained in this unbelievable daze – she did say a bottle or two, didn’t she – was Isle of Jura.
I MAINTAIN I HAVE A RIGHT TO CHOOSE MY APPEARANCE
It’s a very appealing bottle, unusually for a whisky the bottle is clear. It has an inverted middle, which makes for handling this beauty a pleasure for my firm masculine grip. This gives it a slender and delicate feel. The label has the dreamy picture of an orange sandy beach and above the label is a picture of the Isle of Jura. As with any quality whisky there’s an attractive stoppered cork sealing in the liquid gold.
FROM CLOWN TO DANDY
The whisky has a smooth easy taste that rolls easy around the mouth. The gentle aftertaste and burn adds to the reminiscence of pleasure and leaves the palate asking for more. The only thing I take this whisky with is another dram. It’s gentleness is attributed to the water from the Bhaille Mharghaidh spring on Jura and keen whisky drinkers may be able to catch a wee taste of sea salt and smoke. It’s distilled in the wee village of Craighouse and is the only whisky to be made on Jura. The distillery has been on the go since 1810. It’s 40%vol of sheer indulgence, especially at £15-99 for 70cl although this was a special discount price at Asda. But then Mrs B did spend rather a lot on the luxury of clothes, so I think I’m permitted the spend on this necessity.
The website ( www.isleofjura.com ) is a pleasure to visit too, it’s one of the few sites that gets away with playing background music. Like the whisky, it is discrete and mellow. There’s lots of information about the whisky and it’s history as well as the history of Jura. There’s also some interesting information about the wildlife on the isle. Don’t forget to do the competition whilst you’re there and then go on the virtual tour of the distillery. If you’d like to learn more about the Isle then go to: http://www.scotland-info.co.uk/jura.htm
A wee virtual dram to the Ciaoer who tells me the name of the Dr Who episode I’ve been referring to.
The other bottle I bought. That is another Christmas treat for another day…
CIAOER I’D MOST RECOMMEND THIS TO This one goes to each and every member of the Ciao team who are enjoying a well-deserved break over the festive season. I’ll raise my glass, share a wee dram, and bid you a Merry Christmas and thank you for such a great site. I’ve made lots of online friends and learnt a great deal whilst being entertained this last year.

...upon a 10-year.
The Isle of Jura 10-year Single Malt has a luminous amber colour, with sparkling clarity and shine. The nose is a bit nutty, perhaps roasted chestnut, perhaps toasted bran or barley. This bouquet is quite full and fun, with not too many complexities – straightforward and interesting in its approach.
In the taste, however, there is more of a Highland character than traditional island aspects – not too much peatiness, no real iodine ... ...picture of the map of Isle of Jura on the white/silver label. Quite distinctive and easy to find on the shelves of the shops, I am always pleased to find it, doubly so when it is on a special discount (which is rare, as this is a product in demand!).
This is a medium-bodied scotch that seems to have its act together. Worthy of the Isle of Jura. This can sometimes be difficult to find in America – it is not too expensive, but being an off-the-beaten-path ...

...found this interesting bottle of Isle of Jura on offer. Noticing that this was a single-malt Scotch, produced at Isle of Jura, on the west coast of Scotland, my interest was piqued. The bottle was a simple glass one, with an indentation where one's hands would go when pouring this delicious nectar. Also featured on this 750-ml. bottle is a picture of the actual Isle of Jura just above the label.

After visiting the Isle of Jura webpage, www.isleof jura.com, I found out some interesting information about this product. It is indeed produced on the Isle of Jura, located just off the west coast of Scotland, not far from Glasgow, and just north of the Island of Islay. This Scotch has been produced since 1810 and is aged 10 years. The alcohol content is 43% alcohol/volume.

...the various products of the Isle of Jura distillery. What made this so special was that the tutor was the daddy of all of the whiskies on trial, Mr Willie Tait. Willie is to whisky what Stradivarius was to violin making, for Willie is the master distiller and now the brand ambassador for Isle of Jura Single Malt Whisky. Advantages: smokey but surprisingly refreshing Disadvantages: raw meat aftertaste
Single malt - Island- Bottled as 10 year and 16 year. I first tried this whisky at the Whisky Heritage Centre in Edinburgh and bought a bottle when I (surprisingly enough) found it in a local supermarket. You will find it to be quite iodine in flavour and aroma and a little mineral in terms of taste. It is so smoky that it takes a little time to ply the subtleties of this whisky - a masculine island whisky through and through characterised by its ... ...disappointing and fades to a raw red meat. Time for a chewing gum or another dram! The packaging is attractive and distinctive. The cardboard sleeve is well-designed along with the bottle - a handy shape (note the absence of neighbouring and dominating Islay from the map illustration on the bottle)
It is unfortunate to think this whisky will never be in the mainstream - if you like island whiskies (Laphroaig, Bowmore, Ardbeg, Bruichladdich) then ...
