Avant-garde Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake, brought out his first perfume in 1992. The innovative, L'Eau D'Issey was an immediate success for the minimalistic design of the perfume bottle. Born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1938, he is a Designer who works on the principle that "fragrance, body, clothes and the environment should all work in harmony, and link together with the environment." He considers his collection to be works of Art rather than just designs made of cloth, and so it is with the birth of his very first perfume L'eau D'issey.

L'eau D'Issey translated means: Issey's water

L'eau D'issey is my favourite perfume. I think it was the creative shape of the bottle which first attracted me to it. It stands straight and slim, with a tapering conical shape to it. The glass is clear, with the words Issey Miyake, L'eau D'issey, running around the base of the bottle, in understated writing. The lid is also conical, tall, and fashioned in chrome, and it has an inset clear glass globe ball to the tip. The shape is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, without fuss or frills. Beautifully designed, with a real flair for the simplistic. On removing the lid it reveals a tidy, chrome vaporisateur, atomiser spray.

The Eau de Toilette inside is slightly yellowed in colour, and, and there is a unobtrusive, thin plastic tubing inserted through the perfume for the drawing up, and the releasing of the fragrance. The outer boxing is silver in colour, and diamond shaped. It displays a white section with Issey Miyake written upon it in black lettering. To the reverse of the box it reveals the ingredients, and to the base you have the addresses for the product, and the flammable symbol.

The fragrance of L'eau'D'issey is out of this world. It is absolutely gorgeous! In describing the fragrance I would say it is portraying the essence of life, it is vital, vivacious, uplifting, and energetic. It puts me in mind of beautiful spring day. I would say this fragrance, more than others, evokes images to the senses. It really is a most unusual scent, and it really lifts the spirits when I smell it's fragrance.
The main theme of this perfume is water; Isseys water. It represents an element. It also stands for purity, and serenity, and all this comes through in the fragrance. I would say this perfume speaks, it really does, and it assaults the olfactory senses with the qualities that Issey Miyaki wanted to evoke. It is very descriptive in it's translation from scent to meaning. The perfume has movement, and change, and as it warms on the skin it goes through a transition of composite.

This is a complex scent made up of musks, and lotus, white lilies, peony, and spicy carnations. It contains a wide, and carefully chose array of floral notes, and earthy musks bringing together Isseys essential theme of water and earth, which were chosen to represent life itself. Some have described this fragrance as romantic, but it's so much more than that. It's essential, sparkling, vibrant, living, breathing aroma of life. It's unique to put it in a nutshell.

This Eau de Toilette is perfect at any time, day, or night, or any occasion. It is one of those perfumes that is very distinctive, and leaves an uplifting fragrance in it's wake, when someone passes you, wearing it. You need to let this fragrance settle before really getting the full effect of its scent. If you are testing L'eau D'issey in a shop, give it about half an hour to fully appreciate what an interesting and individual perfume this is. Any perfume is just an assault to the olfactory senses when it is first sprayed, it is too full of alcohol at first.

L'eau D'issey endures, and when it is cooling down to the base notes the strong all round fragrance that is noticable when first applying is still in there lingering well. It is by no means an overpowering fragrance , I would say it was light, and delightful. It just lasts very well, with no real need to reapply it during the day. I do not see this as essentially floral though it does contain a cocktail of floral notes. It is woody, and musky with floral notes running through it. It is spicy and intoxicating. It is just so hard to describe a perfume in the written word. But if you like the sound of it, you really should check this perfume out as it is just so heavenly. I have had 'many' compliments when I am wearing it, it does have that effect on people. Uplifting, as I said.

In conclusion I would say of all the perfumes I have tried and owned, at the moment, and for the foreseeable future this will remain my favourite. Never has a perfume made me feel as L'ea D'issey does. It is a vibrant essence portraying the elements, best way I can describe it really. Romantic? Maybe - Spiritual? Especially. - Divine? - Definitely! - In summing up I would say that L'eau D'issey is as a perfect fragrance for any occasion. -

"The fragrance includes notes of lotus, cyclamen, freesia and carnations, white lilies, with hints of amber-seed musk, peony white lily and spicy carnations."

L'eau Dissey is made in Paris, France, and is available in varying sizes from 25ml upwards, and it can be purchased from most large department stores, chemists, and on-line stores.

Best price I could find was from www.Strawberry.net: 125ml £37.50 Free p&p. Which is an excellent price.
