What can I say - the hype around Victoria Stilwell since the introduction of Me or the Dog is well and truly justified. The woman knows what she's on about and this book strips away the ridiculous outfits and stupid phrases from Channel 4 and gives you the information you need in plain old english. Getting a puppy - she tells you how to train it in different ways and tells you why it works/doesn't. Got a problem - there's questions answered throughout the book. She tells you how to train particular aspects and how to discipline too. It's also reasurringly written in that it's not patronising and helps you understand your dog - there's sections on body language and noises - it's fairly in depth but at the same time split into sections so you can find the bit on crate training, or toilet training, or barking whenever you need it. It definately helped me train Doughnut and now we're best of pals (she'd sell my soul for a bonio but...). I got my copy of ebay - HB so that it survived being chewed by puppy teeth!

Advantages: Clear, concise training aid. Disadvantages: Can't think of any! It is a really good book.
...see that should the dog lose his hearing, I will still be able to get him under control without too much trouble. It's early days with this dog, but with the help of this book, I hope to feel happy to introduce him to friends and family! ...

Advantages: clear, great illustraions, easy to read Disadvantages: I feel she can be too tough with the dogs
Based on the popular TV program, this book shows you how to train your dog and correct any behavioural problems they may have. I used the advice in the book to train my little rescued shitzu/maltese Charlie, basic commands such as sit, stay and lie down. His behaviour has improved. The advice in the book has also helped him overcome his seperation anxiety. The book is well illustrated and easy to read. I must admit I haven't been quite as tough as ... ...home from work I say hello to Charlie straight away and give him loads of attention, which you're not meant to do.
However, the book is very useful to keep on your bookshelf should any problems arise with your pup. I found it useful for toilet training and you can always ignore the bits you don't like. ...
