I've just finished installing 2 pairs of these speakers with the JBL Control SB2 Sub Bass Speaker. The single cone Sub is designed to drive 2 pairs of top speakers in stereo.
Having switched the system on for the first time today and got some music running through it I was primarily amazed at the projection of these little babies. They throw the sound really well and the overall sound I can describe in one word: Crisp!
Without the Sub Bass unit these speakers extend down to 80hz which is a respectable figure for such a compact cabinet. I would imagine that, on their own these speakers would make ideal candidates for background music in bars, cafe's and restaurants. They would also make pretty tasty surround speakers in a Dolby setup and are a viable alternative for home hi-fi for those who want a more professional sound. Do not expect stomach pumping bass from these babies though.
If I had one criticism of these speakers, it is that the mid frequencies are very pronounced and quite harsh. An E.Q is therefore essential to take out some of the ear drum hammering nasties.
Finally, if you plan to use these in a foreground setup, such as with a live DJ, I would suggest coupling in a Sub Bass cabinet as I can easily see these getting blown by an over zealous, bass loving DJ. At 150w peak however, you would more likely suffer tinitus before these speakers gave up and popped their cones.
For the money these are a bargain. Some places are doing them for £69.99 a pair and at that price, coupled with the sound quality and JBL heritage, you could do worse, a lot worse!
