My girlfriend bought these for her iPod Nano as something to have in the bedroom rather than paying full whack for a full mini hi-fi system. Since neither of us know massive amounts about the technology involved in audio equipment, I think that she just went for the "ones that looked coolest"
And they do to be fair. The waved design looks great in a modern style bedroom, sat on the top of a chest of drawers and it is quite fun to hide the speakers in discreet corners to provide those surprising sounds when listening to music in stereo.
Sadly the speakers are a little small and don't put out massive amounts of power; not exactly necessary in a small bedroom based system, but it would have been nice.
The funkily curved bass speaker/woofer is a little buzzy in the low end, particularly when playing house music (A favourite of my girlfriend), but handles indie and alternative with comparative ease.
The controls, mounted on the bass speaker, are simple and easy to work out. Sadly there is no graphic EQ on the unit, which means that with an iPod nano, the sound is a bit restrictive. Plugged into a PC or a media centre, it works absolutely fine since you can change the feel and levels through the PC itself.
Overall then, it's not a bad purchase for the price (approx £50), but you are paying for design rather than functionality, but it is versatile, easy and quick to set-up and will link to virtually any portable device.
It does look funky though.
