I purchased these in black, a little over a year ago, in order to connect up to my PC to allow me to play my mp3 collection with ease.
So out of the box, I could already see that these were no ordinary speakers, with their somewhat quirky styling appealing to me instantly. However, this leads to the first point to be made, as if you're looking for a set of speakers that will just blend into the background, and not affect the appearance of the room, then these are definitely not for you. Conversely, if you want speakers with a unique appearance that can be quite a conversation starter, then keep on reading.
Visually, these speakers are quite a head turner, with their curved profile, and matching subwoofer, and little LEDs underneath each speaker, which emit a pleasant glow when the system is turned on.
Setting up and using these speakers couldn't be any simpler either, as all of the supplied leads go to the subwoofer at some point, either as an input, or an output. Firstly, both of the speaker leads are both colour coded, and have different shapes on the ends of their connectors to ensure that the correct signal goes to each of the speakers. The input lead is then a different colour to both of the speaker cables, which again adds to the ease of setting up. After this, the only thing left to do is to plug in the mains, and you're ready to go!
Sonically, these are some of the best PC speakers I have heard, with great clarity on the treble, and powerful bass. Even with the built-in soundcard on my PC, these sound better and clearer than the Creative 7.1 setup, with Creative Soundblaster Card that we have elsewhere in the house. This is mainly due to the Harmon Kardon speaker cones, yet another selling point I feel!
The volume control is another nice feature, it is completely touch sensitive, however you do need to be gentle with it, as the volume does begin to increase exponentially if you hold your finger on it for more than around 3secs, and these speakers can get surprisingly loud! There is marginal sound adjustment available to the user, with both bass and treble controls on the subwoofer, although most users will probably find one setting that suits their rooms acoustic, and stick with it.
Overall, if you're looking for speakers to connect to your Hi-Fi, then go with some Mordaunt Shorts, but if you're looking for a general purpose multimedia speaker set, with great sound and looks, then these fit the bill nicely.

i was very tempted by these when I was after a surround system for my PC - but they would have been wasted if I had put them in the only areas available (out of sight) otherwise people would be tripping over them - glad to see that they are a decent set though .
