Advantages: Small, good sound, good design. Disadvantages: Almost indestructable packaging.
I can't believe no-one has reviewed this yet! I bought one for my wife as a Christmas present recently, and she loves it. I bought her an Ipod video Nano recently, so this was a logical accessory for use at home.
I paid £49 in Tesco (reduced from £79) in November 2007, and last time I looked, they were still £49. Sound quality is very good, and the sound is very clear for such a small unit. The remote only has 5 buttons, but this is enough to drive the neccessary functions of the Ipod. One thing that caught my wife out is the power switch, on the rear of the unit. When plugged in, nothing seemed to be happening on the Ipod, and it took a couple of moments looking to ... more

Sound quality is very good, and the sound is very clear for such a small unit. The remote only has 5 buttons, but this is enough to drive the neccessary functions of the Ipod. One thing that caught my wife out is the power switch, on the rear of the unit. When plugged in, nothing seemed to be happening on the Ipod, and it took a couple of moments looking to realise that the dock was not switched on. Also on the rear of the unit are sockets for line in and out.
Naturally, it charges the Ipod when you insert it into the dock, it seems ideally suited to a bedside table, as it is a good looking, small speaker dock, unlike some of the huge ones available currently. The remote is radio frequency operated, so you don't have to be 'line of sight' with the dock to operate it, which is good. The dock runs on a mains adapter, and the remote on an included coin battery.
The only gripe is the packaging - it took me about 5 minutes to hack my way in, it's a clear plastic 'clamshell' design, but it's heat sealed at the edges, and you will need to be careful when opening, it will require strong scissors, and there is a risk of heavy handed opening attempts damaging hte item inside.
Advantages: Great sound. Amazing range on remote. Great value. Disadvantages: Only runs on mains power
I bought this product as I was looking for a speaker system with docking facilities. I found it in my local Tesco at around £50. I was undecided for a week or two but then I decided to purchase. When I tried it out I was amazed that it had a remote that was not only simple to use but it also had a massive range. I could have the speakers playing in a room with the door closed and change the track, pause or mute from the other end of the corridor.
... ...same today after owning it for nearly a year. It even sounds great on full volume which is usually not the case in other products I have owned in the past. This is a great speaker system and I recommend it to anyone, the only problem I have had is that I lost the remote but was able to buy a new one for about £10 (don’t quote me on that).
There is one main disadvantage, which is that it only runs from a mains adapter but I believe the newer model ...

Set your music free! The JBL On Stage II speakers with RF remote is a compact yet powerful high-performance sound system for iPod and other MP3 players. Fill your room with clear, accurate sound and all the volume you (and your friends and neighbours) can handle.
The JBL On Stage II docks, syncs and charges your iPod but also has mini-jack connectivity so you can connect any music device to the speaker system to enjoy your tunes.
