Earlier today I was looking for a sports bag. At about 10am on an uncrowded Friday morning I decided to enter a sports shop as part of this search and despite admitting to not being the most capable of shoppers I assumed this was a reasonable idea. Silly me.
There are many sports shops in Bristol. They are predominantly JJB Sports though so I wasn't particularly spoilt for choice. Anyway in I sauntered not looking on spending too much cash but something reasonably sized and not that unpleasant to look at.
Suddenly my mind was full of questions. When did sports shops stop selling sports equipment? Surely the people seeking to dress like Harry Enfield's Scousers can't be so numerous that there is actually demand to meet this overwhelming supply of shell suits? If the reason all these horrible clothes and trainers exist is for people to actually do sport in them then what sport can they possibly partake in? Only one where all equipment necessary is provided by nature as this shop ONLY SELLS CLOTHES.

The store did have some bags. Not cheap and not expensive, back in the original store I felt I would purchase and leave sharpish. I managed to attract the attention of the shop assistant who's position/calling seem to entail standing in front of the door and staring out of it and tried to communicate. I told him I'd like to buy the particular bag I was holding (expecting him to go and get a packaged version from the back and put the display item back on the shelf). He took it off me and looked at it thoroughly and then asked 'this bag?'. This immediately worried me but I was resolute and said yes. He pauses a while longer unsure of what to do and then tells me he'll take it to the counter for me.
I then stand in line whilst matey goes back to his more manageable task of breathing. At this point there are 5 assistants 2 tills and 1 person serving. I wait patiently just as mummy taught me. It eventually becomes my turn to be served upon which till-shop-assistant screeches over to vacant-stare-shop-assistant and asks if he can go and fetch a 'flat one' (I assume she means bag) from the back. I don't see him again. The queue grows. Till-shop-assistant does some staring to be proud of. We wait. Till-shop-assistant asks me if I'm sure I want this bag. We wait some more. Till-shop-assistant sells me the display item.
I walk outside put the bag in a bin and vow to do more sitting down and eat more cake.
Although I lied about the last bit (I eat enough cake as it is) JJB sports has the most dis-interested staff I think I've ever come across. Not bad at their jobs, simply unaware that they have jobs. When you add that to the terrible stock that they carry I think you can guess I certainly won't be returning to one in a hurry and I suggest you avoid them as well. Decent online sports shop recommendations please!

JJB Sports....a shop I thought I could trust for a bargain and straightforward, hassle free service....now I'm disillusioned.
I've shopped at JJB sports a number of times in the past. I've bought a number of squash racquets from them at what seemed good prices, picked up various articles of clothing, and found some bargain shoes.
Their stores are typically out-of-town 'bargain barns' and though I have visited city centre branches in Glasgow, this ... ...the site to use for JJB Sports...though you cannot buy online and the online catalogues are pretty sparse (Gym equipment, Basketball equipment or Table tennis gear *only*).
Having travelled a couple of junctions along the M4, I found the selection of around 12 badminton racquets fairly easily and was able to select one that I thoughth would suit me. I checked with a nearby assistant who was stacking shelves, and confirmed that a cover would be provided ...

...bought a basketball hoop from JJB Sports for £200. They were offering interest free credit on purchases this size and although I did not particularly need the credit I thought as it was there I would take advantage of it. I paid £20 deposit and needed to pay the rest by direct debit – 6 payments of £30.
I have never ever regretted a decision involving buying any goods as much as I have done this one.
First off the credit agreement is administered ... ...think you are dealing with JJB Sports who are a reputable company.
Do not make that mistake. If anything goes wrong JJB Sports through their Wigan office just do not want to know.
The problem I had initially was that within weeks of setting up the direct debit payment I got a letter demanding £1100 or I would be taken to court. After many frustrating telephone calls they eventually and very casually admitted it was all a mistake. What troubled ...

Advantages: Many branches, lots of different sports. Disadvantages: hardly open or out of stock
JJB JJB is from the creator of JJB MR. J.J. Broughton and it sells all the sports things i need.(provided they are in stock)In the world of sport shops JJB Sports is no way the top shop it is around second or third. im writing on it because i use it the most.
What it sells
Ah ha the gold mine what it sells is the most important factor of any shop bar price. JJB sells most things you would want for the more "common sports" such as football, rugby,tennis,hockey,golf,cricket ... ...£49.99 when i went into JJB they had the same ones (nike total 90 in black and gray if you must know) for £24.95 (on offer.) that shows that it is cheaper and therefore more useful. JJB sports is well set out and presented so you can easily find the things you want, the store layout where i go to is practicaly the same on every vist which i have several times a month.Making it convenient and quick.

JJB is good if you want to find out what the most you are prepared to pay for the item and then you know that you can go out and find the same product somewhere else for a lot cheaper.
They have had recently a good shoe sale when you could get 20% off all footwear, so that training shoes did not work out too dear but for most other things the prices are just too high for the type of clothing that you are buying.

...strength of a visit to JJB Sports at The Fort in Birmingham on Froday the 16th December 2005.
My wife and i dropped into JJB Sports as we were passing to look for some coats for our boys and some bits for the wife as well.
THE STORE
The store itself was spacious, well lit and well laid out, so even a man of my girth could walk around comfortably without being trapped between racks. The racks themsleves were well marked up by brand and price range ... ...could see.
PRODUCTS
JJB Sports sells a good range of sports and leisure wear as well as sports and leisure equipment. There are all of the well known brands available at premium brand prices (although there were a lot on sale at the time) as well as a fair amount of unknown brands at lower prices. Overall i think that there would be generally be something for anyone that was looking for sports/leasure wear.

My friend works at JD Sport so when I go to see her, I often have a look around the shops. Firstly, what is the difference between JJBSports, they have similar names and similar stocks. I don’t really think this shop is that it always seems to be a season behind. The prices are quite high, although you can find a bargain on last season’s stock.
Unlike Allsports they have no points scheme, so there’s no attraction to visit again. The store is quite big and the sports clothes, trainers are well organised but that’s about it, really.
I wouldn’t recommend this sports store because there are other better ones. However, if you want a good pair of trainers then this is the store. It’s got a huge variety of different brand names and they vary in price.

and Fila are among some of the more popular names and the apparel is all generally on for half the price that Nike World, Debenham's or JD Sports would offer. The selection on name brand items is not necessarily the best, but I would certainly check to make sure Sport Soccer does not have the item before heading into JJB's, JD, Intersport or any of the other sportswear shops. My boyfriend bought a Nike training jacket for £25 and the JJBsport across the road carried the exact style and colour for £40.
The clothing items sold are not seconds, damaged items or irregular sizes they are simply past season stock or simply overstock from the main high street branches sold at discount prices. I have never questioned the quality of sportswear purchased from them, and although the street cred of carrying a Sport Soccer bag is not as high as any ...

Went into the medowhall store the other day.I was approached by the very helpful sales assistant that advised me on the best squash racket to buy, he had excellent product knowledge and excellent customer service skills.
I also had an exchange which the manager dealt with very well,he exchanged the trainers straight away and even got me the size i wanted. The range of products were excellently presented and were a lot better value for money than the other sportsshops that are in the center. I bought some Adidas trainers that were twenty pound cheaper that the jjb store in the center. I would recomend this store because of the helpful staff and excellent range of products. The store is definately the best sportsshop in Sheffield. ...
