As a keen DIYer I have a good selection of tools, including battery power tool. In fact, I am the owner of about half a dozen cordless power drills of all shapes and sizes. The one downfall with these drills is the changing of ‘bits’ whilst your in a trick positon, such as high up a ladder fitting an alarm box or the like. So when I saw this rather strange looking device on an advert one day I was intrigued as to how useful this could be.
Once I got my hands on one I was quite surprised just how easy it made those little jobs around the house, and beyond, saving many minutes, without the need to mess about swapping drill bits with screwdriver bits, or carrying two power drills around with you.
** WHAT EXACTLY IS IT THEN…?
It is a drill, (obviously), like any other drill, with the same capabilities and uses, only this one has two ’chuck heads’ instead of the usual one, so with the slide of a switch and the twist of your hand you basically have two drills in one.
** WHAT ABOUT THE PRICE..?
I acquired mine for just under £100, which, after a quick search on-line, is about the average price. I know it does sound a little on the high side, although there are many cordless drills out there at more than double the cost, but this ingenious duel headed drill is well worth the money.
** WHAT DO YOU GET FOR YOUR MONEY..?
The duel drill itself, with keyless chuck
18 volt (1700 mAH) NiCad battery.
Battery charger with one hour charge.
23 piece accessory kit. (consisting of various drive bits)
Instructions
All coming in a black blow moulded case.
** THE DUEL DRILL ITSELF...
It may look a little daft on first site, almost like a deformed hammer drill, but you soon get passed the looks and will be amazed just how useful this really is.It offers…
Up to 1100 RPM, giving you plenty of power.
20 torque settings for the more delicate drilling/screwing
Trigger control with variable speed, giving full control during use.
Two metal gears, giving ample power for everyday tasks.
Built in spirit level to help with straight drilling.
Magnetic grip, to stop the dropping of screws
**IN CONCLUSION…
I have owned my Duel drill for a while know and am so pleased that I bought it in the first place. Anyone who does any form of DIY will know how frustrating it is when you have to change the drill bits, either to change the bit or to replace it with a drive bit so you can drive that screw home, only to then have to change the bit once more. I know the simple solution is to carry a second drill with you but this can be a little bulky, especially if you are climbing a ladder or are leaning into a narrow passageway. The there’s the problem of one of the drills losing power, so you’re back to square one, changing drill bits and drive bits over and over again, sometimes dropping the bit on the floor, watching it roll under the built in unit you put up last week, (or does that just happen to me?)… Talk about time consuming. But with the duel drill you get none of these hassles as you have both drill bit and drive bit already set into the two separate keyless chucks, giving you more time to get the job finished and less time twisting the chuck and changing the bits.
It looks like a powerful little tool, although the second drill head does look slightly strange as it hangs down in front of the handle, the trigger being protected by a hand guard, which saves any damage to your fingers. The keyless chuck is as simple as clapping your hands, you simple hold one half of the chuck with one hand and turn the other half with your other hand. The fact that most cordless drills are keyless these days most people know how to use them anyway. Switching the chucks couldn’t be easier, you simply pull back the little black button which lies near the chuck, then twist the head until it clicks into place…. Voila.
The great things about its safety feature is the fact that only one chuck works at any one time, the one which is clicked into position, whilst the one you don’t need at the time lies safely out of the way. And with the quick hour charge for the battery you can be drilling and screwing all day long.
In all , this is defiantly a must have for all budding DIYers. It is a time saver, it lowers the frustration levels and it saves carrying more than one drill around with you.
