I purchased a JML Halogen Oven just a couple of weeks ago and so far it's been perfect in every way!
I've cooked meals for one person through to five people and each one has come out perfectly. It's fantastic for cooking for one, no fuss, no mess, just pop your food in, set the timer and check on it every now and then to see how its going.
I can finally grill without the smoke alarms going off if a corner of whatever is under it over cooks and it makes perfect cheese on toast without needing to toast the bread, or even turn over!
The self clean function is brilliant, a squirt of washing up liquid and some water, set the time and go! A quick wipe round with a sponge and a rinse out and it's done. It takes less effort to clean the oven than it does to wash up the plates!
Not many people can say that!!
The JML Halogen Oven coped with Christmas dinner perfectly, there were just two of us and the bird and the roast potatoes fit in with loads of room to spare on the low rack - it cooked to perfection in just over an hour and the bird came out moist and tender yet browned superbly. The meat was so tender the legs barely needed any help being removed for serving as they just slipped off the bone, yet unlike Christmas birds cooked in my main oven before, the skin was still brown and crispy. It also had much less of a "fatty" taste/feel to it as rather than sitting in its own fat and juice whilst cooking it all drained away into the bowl underneath - which was ladled up to add to the gravy!
A roast for five was cooked fantastically well and so quickly - which was handy with five hungry mouths to feed! The large beef joint had a recommended cooking time of nearly 3 hours, but even on the recommended temperature, (not any higher), it was cooked in 1hr 20minutes, with perfect roast potatoes in there too! The veg was steamed seperately but only due to personal tastes, if roast veg had been the order of the day as well there was still plenty of room for them too. Everyone commented on how moist and juicy the meat was, again the juices were ladled from the bottom of the oven for gravy and was delicious.
Last night was a good old favourite of sausages - cooked straight from frozen, (manufacturers recommendation), they were cooked straight through with a crispy outer skin in 20 minutes - although I'm 100% sure they were cooked in 15, just left them in for an extra five as I added some hash browns last minute haha! Recommended cooking times from frozen were down as 25-35 minutes so again they cooked in half the time!
Cooking for just myself each day became such a chore, the rigmarole of pans and ovens and spending so much time in the kitchen checking on things and turning and stirring etc - the microwave became the main utensil in the end out of sheer laziness. At the end of a long day a quick meal should be quick and most of the time they aren't any more. Since buying the JML Halogen Oven however I've cooked myself a delicious, quick meal every day and whilst I sit down to eat I can leave the oven to self-clean so no more having to dread the washing up!
For anyone considering purchasing a JML Halgoen Oven, I highly recommend them! I also have a few tips
-Remember that they will cook much faster than a conventional oven so best tip is to set the timer in shorter bursts that way you can check on it regularly without worrying about overcooking!
-The self clean function is fantastic, and the main bowl is dishwasher safe too so can be easily turfed in there too, but I've found that a second "wash" with just plain hot water is a great way to give it a good rinse out after washing and make sure there is no washing up smell lingering - it might be just me but I rinse my plates and cups too after washing so it makes sense to me.
-Whilst cleaning pop the racks upside down in the water and let it clean them too! A quick wipe over with a sponge and a rinse under the tap and they come out sparkling!
-If you're worried about any food sticking to your racks just spritz them very lightly with some oil before cooking - you can get the low-cal spray oils at any supermarket and one spritz is all you really need. So far I've only done it once with a couple of chops because nothing else has stuck in anyway.
-When you're done using the oven and it's cleaned and ready to store a quick wipe around the inside with some kitchen roll stops any condensation forming as it cools down - you could place the lid with an edge raised slightly to stop it but rather than risk the lid slipping if it wasn't resting securely I just wipe it out. It takes seconds and stops any moisture leaving any stale smells behind!
-The bowl is quite weighty and too much water makes it quite a hefty piece of kit to empty so don't over fill - also with the way it washes you don't want it too full of water as it will splash the parts that need to stay dry. (I couldn't find any recommendation of how much water to use for cleaning so personally I use around 2litres of warm water with some washing up liquid and then 2litres of warm water on its own for a quick rinse afterwards.
