Hi everyone, thank you for visiting. I've been retired for about ten years. I have many interests, Food and its preparation is probably one of my favorites! - when I'm not preparing food, I'm probably trying to catch it. I'm an avid fisherman.

I bought the oven with some trepidation. I'd seen it being demonstrated on one of the TV Shopping Channels and was impressed. It arrived very quickly and after a brief look through the instruction booklet, decided to give it a try. My wife sifted through the 'fridge and we settled for a couple of chicken thighs. We placed the portions on the metal grid inside the glass bowl, fitted the lid, set the temperature to about 200 degrees, the timer for 30 minutes and closed the safety handle. Result? perfectly cooked chicken!
And that was the start of our love affair with the halogen oven. Since that first day we've used it regularly. Fish steaks are particularly good as are pork chops, grilled bacon, sausages, tomatoes, roast and baked potatoes and we've even cooked (to perfection) a roast joint of pork. The crackling is great!
At first I thought the supplied recipe booklet was a bit of a let down. I suppose I expected a complete cookery book. I later realized that a comprehensive cooking guide is not necessary. The booklet gives you the basics and most other foods are just an extension of the basics. By that I mean you have to use a bit of common sense. The great advantage is that you are able to WATCH the cooking process. The glass bowl is lit up like a Christmas tree during the cooking process and any tendency of the food to burn is easily spotted and corrected. (Unlike the conventional oven where you insert the roasting dish and only get motivated when smoke fills the kitchen!!!)
Compared with our electric oven the Halogen is far more efficient. The normal oven takes about 20 to 30 minutes to reach an operating temperature. The halogen takes about five and cooking times are so much faster. Economy is probably its biggest asset. The halogen oven uses just 1.8 Kw. compared with the normal oven's 4 Kw.
Cleaning the halogen is a doddle! The lid, which houses the heating element and cooking controls, is easily cleaned with a damp dish cloth and some washing up liquid. The glass bowl is simply washed out in the kitchen sink. You can also half fill the bowl with warm water and detergent, replace the lid, set the temperature to the WASH position and let the oven clean itself but I think that's a bit of a gimmick. A rinse in the sink is so much quicker!
My Son has his own place and tends to be lazy when it comes to preparing food. The toaster and frying pan are probably the most used in his kitchen. We bought him a halogen oven for his birthday. He looked a bit surprised when he saw it and I wondered if he'd use it. I needn't have worried. It's now in regular use and he's often on the 'phone to his Mother suggesting that she try this recipe or that one. Another convert!
