My old straighteners broke and I couldn't afford a pair of GHD's at the time so on the recommendation of a friend I tried these which were on the shelf at Woolworths. At £30 they were a lot cheaper than GHD's or other salon stylers.

My hair is mid length and slightly wavy. Due to the texture it's not easy to straighten and I need the higher heat settings to get a successful result. At the time of purchase these straighteners were some of the hottest in the price range, the majority of the alternatives were around the 180-200 degrees maximum temperature.

Out of the packet they looked cheap and felt a bit flimsy. There are a number of different heat settings and an LED display to indicate when they have reached temperature. The control buttons are located on the side of the handle and I found that I was always switching them off by accident. The handles are relatively wide and I found them quite awkward to hold. It was quite a surprise to find that these straighteners make a noise which I was told was the ion generation.

At full temperature these make even bone dry hair steam! They straighten hair quickly but it does appear flat afterwards. I also found that I got kinks in my hair from the straight sides of the plates. I also found that my hair became a little flyaway afterwards, even when using serum. They are not recommended for use on dry hair.

Although I wasn't entirely happy with the results a friend found them better than her GHD's which I think shows that a lot depends on your hair type.

I wouldn't buy these again, I think there are far better options on the market in this price range and the technology is improving all the time.
