Advantages Easy to use and clean, good results, reusable
Disadvantages Can't fit much in smaller toasters
I love a good toastie! When I still lived at my mums she had a toastie machine, I loved that beauty. Then when I moved into my own house it wasn’t an essential I needed to buy, I just toasted two slices of bread then put the filling of my choice inside. That was until I came across JML’s Toasta Bags.
Toasta bags are essentially a sandwich bag that you slot into a toaster to make gorgeous toasted sandwiches. They are brown in colour and totally greaseproof. The toasta bags are also reusable, after using just wash with warm soapy water and they can be reused up to 100 times!
You can buy Toasta bags in most places that stock JML products, I personally picked mine up in Wilkinsons for £3 for a pack of 4 bags.
The toasta bags are very easy to use, you just make a sandwich, like you would do for a cold sandwich, slip it into the brown bag and slot into your toaster and toast, it’s as easy as that.
I’ve got a cheap small toaster so I do have trouble trying to squeeze the bag in if I use thick sliced bread, or use a big fat filling. I guess it’s good for my waistline though, not using as much cheese!
My favourite toastie has to be cheese, I love the taste of melted cheese! With the toasta bags sitting upright in the toaster you would think you’d be left with a whole heap of mess in the bottom of the bag, I generally find if any cheese falls out it sticks to the bag wherever it falls out, but it doesn’t happen very often.
If you are left with a mess in the bottom of the bag they are easy to clean anyway, just shake out all the excess and wash up with your normal washing up. I have no idea if you can use them in the dishwasher or not since I don’t own one, but I would have thought that it a dishwasher wouldn’t clean inside thoroughly enough for my liking.
JML say that you can cook lots of different items in these toasta bags such as fish fingers, pizza and pasties, although I haven’t tried any of these as it just doesn’t sit right in my mind, surely something like an oven should be used for these?
If you think about it, the bags can be reused up to 100 times, that’s 400 toasties for just 3 quid. I don’t think I used mine 100 times before discarding, more like 60-70 times, but still that is an amazing amount of uses for the price. I’m almost at the point of throwing away my third bag, and I’ve had them for almost 3 years.
I’d definitely recommend these bags to those who doesn’t have a sandwich toaster. The value for money is incredible, and the results are great too. Please beware if you have a small toaster as you can’t fit much filling inside.
