So i've had this hi-fi for nearly 16 months so i've decided it needs a review considering its still running like clockwork.

Firstly, i decided to get this hi-fi because it isn't your average tall, bulky type but instead the actual micro-unit is flat & long. Its a nice size at roughly 7.5 cm high, 30cm wide and 21 cm deep. It comes with two oval or circle shaped speakers as you can see in the picture. They go well with the blue-ish colour of the unit as they are a nice modern silver colour. The unit and speakers also come with a remote which is a bit big but has most of the buttons that the unit has on it anyway. This means you can relax on your bed metres away as the remote can work from 23 feet away!

The acutal unit:
The front of the hifi contains an lcd panel which lights up when turned on displaying a welcome notice. Once on, this panel displays what track your listening to, how many tracks are left on the cd, displays the radio station your listening to and volume and other features. The on/off button is on the left of the LCD panel on the front. When you venture to on top of the unit, then there is a lot of fancy technology to be seen.

The whole top is covered by the lid which is special in itself. Once the hifi is turned on, this lid slides back revealing the change track buttons, radio tuner and a few other ones including the open lid button. This is when the lid doesn't slide back anymore but actually rotates back and upwards nearly to a 90degree angle allowing complete access to the cd loader. Once you've popped the cd in you press play and the lid slowly rotates down into place and the cd begins to play. This lid helps to make the hifi look very compact and neat when it is turned off and very high tech when its turned on!!

So now on to the features quickly. The hifi has a clock which can be put into 24 hour mode, put on timer to wake you up and there is also a sleep facility. A great little touch is that when sleep is selected the backlight dims a bit automatically or it can be done manually creating an ambience in the dark.

As i said earlier, you can listen to the radio on fm and am bands. You can auto tune them or preset them which is a handy little function. You can also receive fm stations with RDS. This is the Radio Data System which allows FM Stations to send additional signals with their regular programme signals. For example, the stations send their station names and information about what type of programmes they broadcast, such as sports or music. This unit can receive the following types of RDS signals:

PS(Programme Service):
Shows commonly known station names

PTY(Programme Type):
Shows types of broadcast programmes.

RT(Radio Text):
Shows text messages the station sends.

All these signals are useful and add to the features of the hifi's list.
There is also fade-out muting and you can also reinforce the bass sound with AHB PRO. This maintains a rich, full bass at low volume. There is tone control for BASS and Treble as well!! The sound quality is great for the price and is defintely worth it for value for money.

The hifi is also extremely easy to install. The instructions give clear, precise information and pictures for how to connect the speakers to the unit and how to connect it to other components like sub woofers and other external equipment.

This hifi can only play cd-r's and cd-rw's which allows you to burn your favourite songs onto cd from your computer and play it in this hifi. The only problem though is that there is no tape cassete deck and you can't play Mp3 cds. However, this doesn't really matter as the hifi's average price is £100 which is very cheap for the features you receive.

So i'd recommend this to the average user who has a budget to keep but wants something modern, classy but packed with some useful features. Just because it isn't like normal hifi's doesn't take away from the fact that this is a very well developed Hi-Fi system!

Thanks for reading!!

I have a JVC micro system. It's not the same as the model you've got, a lot of the features are the same though. It always amazes me the quality of sound you get through the two small speakers. A very helpful review. Ciao for now - J
