Siemens A50

Advantages: About as cheap as you can expect to find
Disadvantages: The buttons are VERY annoying, and it is quite easy to damage.

I decided that what I needed from a phone was simply to make calls and send the occasional text message. That's why I bought the A50. Its cheap, no frills approach seemed to be just what I needed. And don't get me wrong it has served me quite well but I do have a few gripes that are making me think I might soon be changing phones (I now have). The main one is that the buttons are not very responsive. There is nothing more annoying than trying to write a text and moving on to the next character only to realise that you didn't press the button hard enough for the last one to register. This phone is certainly not for the ardent texter. It just doesn't provide as exciting a tactile experience as you would like. Whereas some phones are actually a joy to use (see my review of the Sony Ericsson k700i) using this phone really is ...

Review of Siemens A50

Siemens A50

Advantages: Small and stylish
Disadvantages: Quality of games

I had my Siemens A50 given to me at Christmas and I am still now trying to figure out how to use some of the functions on it such as the melody manager. The handset itself is light (96g), stylish, appealing to look at with a good button layout and fits nice and comfortably in your hand or pocket. It has a good battery life both on standby and talktime use (I do not know exact figures at the moment but will add them as soon as I find them out). The screen is a nice large visable size, which lights up a nice orange colour when you touch the buttons or have and incoming call. The ringtones I think sound a bit cheap and tacky for such a stylish phone, but there is quite a good range (20), but I'm not sure if u can download more if you wish. I think the volume of the phone is a bit too quiet if in a bag but in normal circumstances it ...

Review of Siemens A50

my A50

Advantages: small, robust, looks good, vibrate alert is handy
Disadvantages: 'double-sided' buttons at top- you know, 1 button, 2 functions

I currently have the A50, and have had it almost a year now. After the initial getting to grips with it stage I find it very simple to work. When I first got it however, I couldn't work out how to turn it on. After a couple of attempts I was told the confirm button has to be pressed at the left hand side. If you press the right or centre, it doesn't switch on which seemed a bit weird to begin with. It comes with 20 ringtones. All of them are a bit rubbish though- you would need to down load some if you want anything decent. It does have the silent alert funtion though which I find very handy. It works well for those occasions where you are not supposed to have your phone on (work etc), but you need it on. Just stick it in your pocket, feel it buzz, and nip off to answer it, nobody knows it's on, no problem!! There are only two games ...
