A few months ago I brought The JVC GR D23. There isn't that much difference between the D23 and the D53, apart from the 53 comes with a remote, which isn't that great, and a card slot to store photos on (you would be better off buying a camera, as the graphics are not that high with this model).
--- Features --- The JVC camcorder comes with a range of features. To start off with; It has a variety of slide faders set into it. Just to name a few, it has: ---Fader Black/White/B.W ---Wipe Corner/Window/Slide/Door... Programs already set, such as: ---Sports (for fast moving recordings) ---Sepia, and ---Classic film (adds grain and slowness) Night mode, which brings light to darkness, like night vision. It does slow it down, though. A built in light, to light up the object you are recording, with complete light and Auto Light, which automatically changes the amount of lght depending on how dark the surroundings are. Playback, so you can watch what you have recorded whenever you want, by switching a flick, rewinding and playing. It has a built in speaker to project the volume, but not much! Zoom. It has a built in optical zoom of 16x, and a digital zoom of up to 700x. I have changed my settings so it only goes up to 16x, as I hate digital zoom as it changes the quality of what you are recording. And lastly, stereo recording, so it records through left and right channels.
--- Quality --- To me, the quality of productions is not as high as I had hoped, but when I look back, for the price it comes at, you can't expect it to be TV quality! The features are good, though, but the microphone picks up background noise, which can be annoying.
--- Other --- This JVC camcorder has many sockets, which include: --- DV: To plug your camcorder into the computer for editing, --- AV: To plug it into the TV and watch it back, --- S-Video: To watch it back on TV using the old socket, --- DC: To charge it! Battery life is sufficient, and doesn't take too long to charge.
