Advantages: Light, easy to carry, good zoom, large view screen, long lasting batteries avaliable, still and video in one Disadvantages: no low light lux, no steady light, not the best anti-shake.

(The view screen is 3" I ... ...room to outside to quickly. The way I corrected this was to put the camera near an open window for about ten minutes, then just outside for 10 minutes then all the way outside for a few more minutes to get it use the the change in temps.
The 4mb card that comes with the camera will store about 30+ images in the low image format, which isn't bad for a video camera.

I love being able to video tape and store still photos at the same time on the same machine, although I replaced the orginal "1 hour" battery with a pair of 3 1/2 - 5 hour batteries which usualy provide about 3 hours when using the HUGE view screen. (The view screen is 3" I belive).
The camera is about the right weight to video tape without much shake until you want to zoom in on something above 5X, then it can get a little shaky.
The big thing I can't figure out is why JVC put a flash on the camera that cannot be operated as a full time light since the camera has no low light lux like the Sony, but if you don't plan to take a lot of low light videos then you will probably love this camera.
The only problem I had when I took my camera to Jamacia and the Bahamas was the rapid condinsation shut down the camera if you took it from your hotel room to outside to quickly. The camera's menu system is easy to learn and operate. The software that comes with the camera... could use some improvment, but it works alright.
I have owned this Camcorder for a full year now having bought it to take on honeymoon last year. Like most things I have used it infrequently but enough to be able to tell you a few things about it. The design is very good and is very comfortable to use, better than the smaller camcorders on the market which are difficult to hold still. The features are easy to use, although some I have never even tried! The playback facility is easy and the screen ... ...past 30x as it starts to get bocky. I think it could have a more powerful optical zoom as the 10x is not quite enough. Battery life is not bad either altough I did buy a spare. I paid Ł1150 for it a year ago which i am sure has come down a lot since then. OK, the bad bit - the software you get with it is a bit poor. The video edit software is not as easy as it should be and it is a shame you do not get the picture playing back through the PC? (not ...

...too many different people. It’s a bit like that new, over keen staff member who’s trying to please all the people all the time. If it would calm down a bit I might like it a bit more.
It looks pretty good, and is pleasantly small and rounded for a palm type so that it fits comfortably in the hand. Knobs and buttons are all where they should be although the two important selectors the one on the side which switches between progressive scan, video ... ...to play mode while it was in the case and drained the battery before I had finished shooting. I was happy to but up with that as the results of the shooting was excellent. The 9600 has a megapixel CCD which gives it a still image resolution of 1,024x768 which isn’t excellent but better than most and images stored on a memmory card are certainly good enough for web use and as stills for your video productions. ...
