The JVC GR-DVL9600 is at top of JVC’s consumer camcorder range, the GR-DVL9600 is stuffed with as many bits and bobs as the engineers could mange and this has to make you think that it’s probably trying to be too many different things to too many different people. It’s a bit like that new, over keen staff member who’s trying to please all the people all the time. If it would calm down a bit I might like it a bit more.
It looks pretty good, and is pleasantly small and rounded for a palm type so that it fits comfortably in the hand. Knobs and buttons are all where they should be although the two important selectors the one on the side which switches between progressive scan, video and the photo modes and the on/off switch at the back- could not do with being more difficult to turn. I found myself having to check the mode dial after I shot a whole sequence in progressive scan by accident, and once it turned itself to play mode while it was in the case and drained the battery before I had finished shooting. I was happy to but up with that as the results of the shooting was excellent. The 9600 has a megapixel CCD which gives it a still image resolution of 1,024x768 which isn’t excellent but better than most and images stored on a memmory card are certainly good enough for web use and as stills for your video productions.

Good review, but a bit more information on the cost and perhaps some more of the features would have helped. I say this as someone who is genuinely looking to buy a Camcorder at the moment. Thanks for the advice,
