The menu system provides quick and easy access to the shooting settings e.g shutter speed and scene modes.
I was worried about ... ...hands. I did find it to be quite a bit of a fumble about, so would reccomend it for smaller hands.
The camcorder starts up fairly quick, but never remembers the date and time, which to be quite honest is'nt really that good if you want to know the precise time that your child takes his first steps. It's really not very good if you need to suddenly turn to capture something else as well as the autofocus is really too slow.

After using a camera to capture those precious moments in my son's life, I decided it wasn't quite good enough. Yes, I can look at his pictures, but it's all still life. It would be good in years to come to look at the pictures and remember but how much better would it be to watch the look on his face when he sees his christmas presents. And better still, watch him take those precious first steps. Ok, so a camera, not good enough anymore. Not when technology is progresing so rapidly.
So I invested in a camcorder. The JVC GZ MG57 to be precise. However I hate all the technical stuff, so needed something that was relatively easy to get my head around. I was worried about the size of the camcorder though, as I have big hands. I did find it to be quite a bit of a fumble about, so would reccomend it for smaller hands.

Now for video quality, it's a hhmmm. There is quite a bit of visual noise and the audio sounds quite muffled. On the plus side it does store seven hours of video.
So, overall, has it's ups and downs in many aspects. Really not appropriate for me to capture those precious moments. And for capturing the photos, not album worthy. I paid £449 for this camcorder, and would mainly recommend it only for its video recording length, it size (if you have small hands) and the easy menu.

Quick review of JVC GZ MG57
I just got this for £299 from Currys and it is great. Ok, the focus seems a bit slow and the battery life is only 1hr10 but that is enough for 99.9% of the time. Would be good if it came with a spare battery but you can get a huge 7hr battery for £25 on the web.
The camcorder looks impressive, starts quickly and is very very easy to use. I recorded a school play of 1hr HQ Video which fitted on 4.5GB of DVD when I burned it on my PC. Absolutely perfect for what I wanted it to do. ...
