PACKAGING The TV comes in a sturdy cardboard box with plenty of polystyrene segments to hold it in place, these segments protected the TV against the impact it had recieved at somepoint in the transit of the TV to my house, as one corner of the box was badly damaged and pushed in, yet the TV itself was in full working order with no aesthetic defects from this impact.
STYLING The TV comes in the fairly standard silver used by most electronics, so will compliment most DVD players, Hi-Fi's, VCR's on the maret. The TV seems quite thick, about 4" deep, for the screen size, and the screen surrounds are also quite wide, but overall I like the looks of the unit. All of the cables are hidden away when you look straight onto the front of the unit, the S-Video port is on the right hand side however, along with jack plugs ports for plugging the unit into your Hi-Fi system, so if you use these ports, the cables are on display if you are looking at the TV from the right.
SOUND The sound from this TV comes from built in Nicam speakers housed underneath the screen, and provides good sound across the full range of volume of the unit. The volume itself has a good range, with sensibly sized increments so that you can set the TV to a sensible level reasonably quickly.
PICTURE The picure quality of this television is excellent, Freeview digital TV comes through brilliantly, sharp with good colour and contrast, and the TV seems to have no difficulty in keeping up with live sporting action, the picture very rarely pixellates (goes blocky) and it is usually only on channels with weaker reception. Watching DVD's through this television brings out all of the colours in the film and the picture quality is superb, I use the S-Video plug for the extra picture quality this brings, you don't get a cable in with the unit but it is worth buying to get the best performance from the LCD display. The smaller size of screen does not detract from viewing enjoyment as all of the detail is well displayed, whether it be thousands of arrows in Kingdom of Heaven, or a lush green forest in House of Flying Daggers. Playing games through the TV on my PS2 has brought no picture difficulty, sports, adventure and driving games all show up well with good picture sharpness and rich colours. The picture is excellent when the TV is used as an auxilliary display for my laptop, mainly i do this for playing games, there are some difficulties involved in doing this however, which i will explain later.
FUNCTIONALITY The television is reasonably easy to use, I find it's built in TV guide function slow and labourious to manage, but all of the TV channel displays show current program times and titles, as well as the next program due in the listings, so I rarely use the TV guide. Switching between Freeview, DVD and PS2 source inputs is an easy task, accomplished from the SOURCE option on the main menu, so only takes 3 or 4 button clicks on your remote. I have found difficulty in switching my TV back toother sources, however, when i have had my laptop plugged into it. The unit switches itself off very quickly when the laptop power is turned off and will tell you it has no input when you turn it back on, and switch itself off again. This is quite difficult to get around, so i rarely use my TV as a monitor for my laptop. All cables are easy to fit and remove at the back of the unit, or the side in the case of the S-Video cable, and a cover goes on the back which will keep them all together and easily managable. There are sockets for most kinds of cable, SCART, S-Video, monitor, analogue arial, jack plugs etc. so you will be able to plug most of your audiovisual devices into it.
DURABILITY In the two years i have owned the TV, i am yet to come across any problems with it, it seems sturdily built. The same is true of the remote, it has seen plenty of punishment (being dropped on hard floors, had food and drink spilled on it etc) and still works as well as the day it arrived.
INSTRUCTIONS The instructions are well written in good English and easy to understand, making initial set-up and tuning a breeze, and most problems easy to solve after that.
VALUE FOR MONEY The TV has come down in price over the 2 years I have owned it, and I found it great value for money when I bought it, so if you are after a TV where you will need no HD functionality, it will be a great buy now!
SUMMARY Some very minor gripes with this TV, but overall I would say it is a great little TV for a bedroom, or a very good TV for a smaller front room/lounge.
Advantages: Brilliant Picture , sensitive tuner Disadvantages: No Off switch, always on standby ( but only uses 3W)
...to my review of the JVC LT-20DA6. The reason is simple - The TVs are very similar, the DA7 being the "updated" version of the DA6, although many retailers are still selling the DA6. Some web sites claim features for the DA7 above those for the DA6, eg HD ready, Sub woofer out, or simulated surround sound. In fact neither is HD ready and the DA6 had the others. I have looked at the specification in some detail and so far as I can see there is absolutely ... ...DA7 runs at 24 Volts. JVC say that this has reduced maximum power consumption from 80 watts to 60 watts. I guess the 12V issue is of no relevance to anyone - except caravan or boat dwellers who can run it direct at 12V DC. However the reduction in power consumption is a good step - reduced cost and greener too.
I was so impressed with my DA6 that I decided to buy another one for another room in the house. When I found that Dixons had stopped selling ...

got.
Its not HD ready but why would you need HD in a 20" set?
My only complaint about this TV is that when turned off it is is standby. The only way to completely stop it using energy is to turn off the wall socket - but that seems to be a feature of many domestic electrical items now.
I bought it from Dixons on line for £435.99 in 2006.
.You probably already know that Dixons shops have now been renamed and that Dixons is now on line only - still under the same ownership as Curry's but selling most products a lot cheaper - I saved about £80 by getting via Dixons instead of Currys even though they have virtually identical web sites and the same ownership and processes.
They don't appear to have it listed now but you can get it from Empire Direct ( via Amazon) for a similar price. Some sites now list the JVCLT20DA7 which appears ...
