I bought my cinema pack just under a year ago and it’s still in working order. It has a modern appearance so its still looks quite new.

JVC’s Cinema Pack contains all you need to turn your living room into a fully fledged mini-audiotorium – you just supply the screen, the form of a TV or projector. The DVD player, surround sound amplifier and speakers are all here. The DVD player and amplifier/control centre come as separate stackable units with the connectors necessary to join them and connect a TV.

The DVD player is JVC’s XV-E1112 and is finished with a smart silver/grey front and well positioned buttons. It is capable of playing a wide range of formats including DVD, Svcd and VCD for video and MP3 music for audio. Both CD-R and CD-RW discs are also supported.

The control centre deals with the surround sound amplifying and includes pass-through Scart connectors for the video. It also includes an RDS-capable FM tuner and an extensive remote control that can be used to control other living room electronics. The remote control can be set to control these electronics.

The five satellite speakers are well made and reassuringly weighty. A 20cm cone subwoofer is powered directly from the mains. On full volume this could be used the aid the demolition of buildings. So, it is very very powerful. Not recommend on full volume. I think you’ll find the neighbours will complain.

When playing a DVD that 5.1 surround sound, the visual is clear and sharp and with the speakers positioned just right, it’s as if you’re really there.

Auxiliary inputs are provided on the control centre to allow for the connection of additional hi-fi separates such as record decks, CD players or even your PC.

The price is now around £495, so quite reasonable, I think.

The cinema pack is good value for anyone who wants to integrate hi-fi and DVD sound systems at the same as upgrading their stereo.
