She loves to visit the counter at Boots to try out the new testers, wheras I stand by the automatic doors breathing in the wafts of fresh air as a new customer enters the shop of cholking fumes. I was okay with the fact I couldn't wear perfumes and simply settled for subtle body sprays or scented spritzes instead.
This contentment ended as I entered my twenties and I was no longer satisfied with girly body sprays and water-based spritzers. I wanted a proper perfume and thus my search for the perfect fragrance began...perhaps I'd even find my own signature fragrance?
The search was long and at times painful; the fumes from the many different perfumes often left me with a pounding headache and my sense of smell became stained with all of the different varieties I was testing. I'd get home and my clothes would smell like I'd just fallen into a vat of ultra-strength perfume and my mum would ask wheteher I had found 'the One' with distant hope in her eyes. This hands on method was too much so I decided to stick to magazine perfume strips and one or two shop testers on a piece of paper. This way I could smell each fragrance properly without mixing them and allowing them to form juxtaposed concoctions.
The day came when I found the fragrance I'd hoped for. I had seen Glow by JLO (an Eau De Toilette) advertised a few times as Jennifer Lopez's first fragrance (because world fame, acting and singing just isn't fulfilling enough). I was skeptical, though when I found a scented page in my magazine I simply had to smell it to see whether my skepticism was just. It wasn't. Before my nose was the most lovely, delicate smell; it was young and fresh and exactly what I had been searching for.
I went to Boots, debit card in my pocket, and asked the assistant if this fragrance was in stock. She nodded and handed me the tester. The bottle is sleek and elegant and made from slightly frosted glass. It has a long, thin dainty neck and a small, oval-rounded bottom. The gentle, slightly pinky coloured liquid shows through and makes the product look very lady-like. It has a light metal band around the top of the neck with 'Glow by JLo' written around the circumference. It has a small metal lid which hides the pump-action button, and looks really sleek and elegant. The only thing I dislike about the bottle is the slightly bling metal chain that drapes over the oval part of the bottle which has a JLO diamante pendant on the end. This is, however removable, and as soon as it's gone the bottle is transformed back to it's lady-like and elegant simplicity.
I sprayed the tester on my wrist and was surprised to find that it suited me very well. At this point I am normally disappointed but not in this case. The smell was not overwhelming but noticably subtle. I could detect notes of soft musk and vanilla, which gives the scent its clean smell. I could also detect jasmine and sandalwood, which are sensual smells, and when I asked the assistant for the formal product description she said the perfume contains the four smells I had detected, plus orange flower, pink grapefruit and neroli, which give the fragrance the fresh smell; soft amber to give it a sexy, youthful edge and orris, again for it's clean, fresh properties. When mixed together in perfect ratios you are left with this wonderful fragrance. It is a soft, subtle smell and although it contains some fruit ingredients it isn't sweet or particuarly fruity, as the other elements tone this down. It isn't floral nor is it synthetic. It is just the most lovely mix of smells and it rests gently on your skin.
I simply had to buy it and bought the large 50ml bottle, which cost me £27.95, which isn't too bad. It is also available in a smaller 30ml size, which costs about £21. It comes packaged in a chic white box with 'Glow by JLO' indented into the box in white.
One of the things I like most about this eau de toilette is that it isn't too heavy. It only needs a couple of sprays and it lasts all day long, but you don't feel as though you are walking in a cloud of fragrance. It doesn't hit people as they meet you, but the gentle aroma is enough to ask people what beautiful perfume you are wearing. I have had so many women ask me what it is, and a few men asking what it is so they can get their wives/partners some!
I also like that it doesn't contain a dominant smell so that it doesn't fit into a category of floral or fruity or...it's just a great smell in its own right. It's young and fresh and smells clean, so is ideal for daytime wear, but sexy and potent enough to wear for evening too. I use it often, for formal and casual occasions, an dit always has me telling others who makes it and where I bought it.
Although it's young, it would suit most ages. It's not suitable for young teenage girls as it's still very much a ladies fragrance, but the best thing to do, as with all perfumes, is try it for yourself with a tester to see whether or not it suits you. If you can only carry off delicate fragrances, this may well suit you as this is the case for me.
I think the fact it's by Jennifer Lopez will automatically put some people off; they might think it's too bling or too sweet or just think it's a commodity because of her celebrity status. Try and put her image aside and judge the scent of the product in it's own right. Give it the benefit of your doubt and try it because I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised like I was.
It won the best fragrance award in the year it was released and has since incredibly remained in the top five or ten best, most popular perfumes/eau de toilettes ever made, among giants like Chanel, which speaks volumes about the quality inside the small, sleek bottle. It is available at most good fragrance outlets and is well worth a test. I love it and highly recommend it to you, but as with all perfumes try it first on your own skin for a perfect idea of how it will smell on you. For allergy advice check with the counter assistant as it doesn't specify on perfume packaging.
Advantages: Fresh, Light Disadvantages: Too much can become overwhelming
I first came across this perfume a while ago when I saw a programme on MTV about the richest celebritys. It showed statistics such as how much they earn per second and what they do for a living. Jenifer Lopez was one of the celebritys on that show and it did a whole section on her perfume 'Glow'. J Lo first got the idea for her perfume 'Glow' when she got out the shower one day and smelt the soapy smell you get on your skin after washing. This inspired ... ...soapy smell after washing. She came up with the idea for 'Glow' and it was manufactured and soon came out into shops.

I first tried Glow by Jennifer Lopez when my daughter came home having bought a bottle. I am sure this perfume was probably designed for her age group (early twenties) and not mine - but when I tried it I was really surprised at the way the fresh almost flowery smell settled on my skin. I wore it in the daytime at work and people commented all day on how nice I smelled and, it lasted all day with no need for an extra squirt!
Impressed I thought ... ...partner - he loved it! Said it wasn't too heavy like some perfumes! Don't know what he means after all he buys me most of them!
Toria and I continued sharing her bottle until whilst on a flight to Gran Canaria in November I spotted a Glow gift set in the in-flight magazine. There was a 100ml bottle of EDT spray and two 75ml tubes - one containing the body lotion and the other containing the shower gel - all for the brilliant price of £25 on a special ...

Now, being a teenager, living in society where image rules and the media tell me who to like, what to wear and where to go. Names like Jennifer Lopez, are part of my vocabulary. Like other stars in the celebrity world with status as high as hers, she is a worthy idol of many young girls. I wouldn't say she is an idol of mine, but if she's on the cover of one of my favorite magazines, I'll buy it. Just like if theres an interview with her on tv, I ... ...do however admire how much she has acheived in her life. She has tried her hand at acting and singing, and has respectable and well know careers in both. Jennifer Lopez is one of the few 'celebrities' who are gifted enough to act AND sing. I don't agree with her diva demands, but hey no-ones perfect, and it makes for entertaining reading! Also, with the men she has been involved with over the years, I, along with many of my friends, take my hat off ...

This is my favourite perfume of all time. I have spent many years looking for my "signature scent" and have finally found it in this product. This perfume is perfect if, like me, you do not like strong heady fragrances as this is light and reminds me of freshly washed hair and summer evenings therefore it is not an intrusive scent to others. A fascinatingly fresh scent that redefines what it means to be sexy, radiant, revealing, simply irresistible. The essence of J. Lo herself. Hmmmm, well that's what this perfume is supposed to make you think. Boots are selling it around £25 for the 50ml Eau de toilette, although I'm sure you can probably pick it up cheaper from some of the internet places such as E-bay cheaper.
Fortunately I didn't buy it but merely used my boyfriends's teenage daughters ... ...I thought it would be really cheap and couldn't believe it when I was told the price. It doesn't smell of much but cheap flowery perfume and it certainly didn't make me want to go out wearing it. I'm not old and wrinkly yet and presumed that J-Los' perfume would have been aimed at women in their early twenties and maybe older but unfortunately it reminded me of something I bought when I was 14 and trying to act at least 18.
The odour is a bit cloying ...
