"Do you get a buzz from steps"

Steps return with their third and arguably most accomplished album yet. After the more bubblegum pop based material of their first two albums, the biggest pop band in the UK produce a more mature, international feel to appeal to a wider audience. Whether this has been successful is another matter. They are at their poppiest best on tracks such as "summer of love", "stomp" and "its the way you make me feel", but the rest of the album signals a pop sound seen more in the music of britney spears or the backstreet boys. The Cheiron studio's produced "here and now" shows the new steps at their funky best, while "you'll be sorry" and "never get over you" show a more dance-orientated feel. The most surprising aspect of the album is the quality of the band's first forays into songwriting. Each member has co-written a track with varying results. Lisa's "never get over you" is a disco stomper while faye and claire stick to the more well-worn pop ballad trail. Cyndi Lauper shares co-writing credits with Faye on the epic "If you Believe". The boy's efforts are somewhat less impressive but are not out of place on this consistently listenable album. A album to undoubtedly attempt to break steps on the overseas market, Buzz makes is an accomplished and more musically diverse effort. Sales have not reflected this, but this should not take anything away from a polished pop album
