Advantages: well written, dramatic Disadvantages: too short
...An excellent book from Anna jacobs, full of drama, excitement and sorrow.
A book to enjoy, curled up by the fire or spread out on the beach. i used a whole box of tissues while reading this book.
The rest of the books in this series are excellent too.
The main character is a woman with a determined character, modern women could take a few tips from her.
I read this book in 1 night as once started i couldnt stop reading till i reached the end.
I felt as though after reading it any problems in my own life were minor and i was thankful i born in this century.
Any one who likes history and a strong story line will love this book.
I thoroughly recommend reading Anna Jacobs....

High Street Review ofHigh Street - Anna Jacobsby

Advantages: Characters I have already read about in Salem Street Disadvantages: Difficult to get hold of
...This book continued where Salem Street finished, Annie Gibson has survived a very difficult beginning including poverty, neglect, rape and a pregnancy following the rape.
Annie has overcome all this and the story conjours up images of the Cotton trade of Lancashire.
It was good to have two suitors in the story as it wasn't definite who she would end up with even though I knew who I wanted her to marry.
I think Anna Jacobs has researched the area and the history of the times very well.
I luckily carried on reading the story of Annie with Ridge Hill and finally Spinners Lake - I am now hoping she writes another even though she did tie everything up quite well in the last book.
Anna Jacobs has a great website if you do a Google search....

...As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann isn’t my usual sort of book. I’m not really sure why I chose it ~ maybe it was the intriguing write up it got in one of our Book Mags in the library, or maybe it was because I wanted a bit of challenge. Whatever the reason, I’m very glad I did.
