I’m not a very good wine drinker. Well, actually, I’m a GREAT wine drinker, in that I am able to consume great quantities of the stuff once I got started. Trouble is that I just don’t hold it very well. And the wine that I like not to hold very well best is Jacob’s Creek Semillon Chardonnay. I’m sipping a glass right now, in fact, so if I trail off subject mid-op and start telling you that you’re all my best friend, you’ll have to excuse me.
Jacob’s Creek SC is from the South Eastern region of Australia, which is the area I believe most Aussie wine comes from. Not that it matters to me where it comes from – it tastes good on the buds and that’s the main thing.
The wine comes in a standard looking 75cl bottle with a simple and rather classy label – no kangaroos, hissing snakes or koalas, which for me is always a good sign, less being more and all that. The bottle is corked, which again I always find reassuring, once having had a terrible 2 day hangover after slurping something cheap with a screw top.
The alcohol content is 12%. I have no idea if that makes it strong or weak as I have never looked at the alcohol content on a bottle of wine before and only did so this evening for this op. Anyway, it gets you drunk if you drink too much (which for me is more than 2 glasses when it comes to wine – told you I couldn’t take it), so it’s certainly not low in the poisonous stuff.
Now to the taste. And I don’t know where to begin really. I like wine, but I’m no connoisseur, so I’ll just have to do my best to describe it.
JC SC is a dry white with quite a bit of body. If you don’t chill it enough it can taste a little rough, but if you chill it well it becomes very smooth and refreshingly sharp. Sometimes I think I detect a hint of lemon, sometimes I think I can taste a smidgen of butter, other times I think I’m just drunk and pretentious. But I can say that it’s definitely not as ‘oaky’ as a pure Chardonnay.
I try to limit my drinking of this stuff to 3 glasses – by which time my speech is starting to slow down and my mind is wandering into erotic realms – but the trouble is that 3 glasses really gives me a taste for the stuff and I always end up finishing the bottle. (At an Ann Summers party recently I drank almost 2 bottles and ended up buying stuff I am now VERY embarrassed about).
A major problem for this wine for me is the morning after. I have a banging head, raging thirst, queasy stomach, vertigo and a general sloshing feeling around the brain. But don’t let that put you off because I ALWAYS get a hangover WHATEVER I drink, it’s just the price I have to pay and the reason I don’t drink more than once a week.
This wine is widely available in most supermarkets and off-licences. I got mine on offer in Kwik Save for £3.49 but it normally retails between 4.99 and 5.99.
I’m now just starting my third glass of JC and I’ve just left a message in my own guestbook which was meant for Moose.
Advantages: easy drinking Disadvantages: only 4 glasses out of a bottle
Well, here I am ¾ of the way through a bottle of wine so I thought why not write about it. Problem is, as this is a new product it will probably be posted at about 9.30 in the morning and make me look really bad!!
Anyway, the wine I am drinking is Jacob’s Creek Semillon Chardonnay – one of my favourite easy-drinking white wines. Children In Need is on TV, hubby is asleep on the floor, the children are in bed and I need cheering up. So ... ...to myself.
This wine is produced in South Eastern Australia and the bottle I am drinking is from this year (2001 – in case you’re not sure!). The blurb on the bottle says that ‘it is vintaged from selected Semillon and Chardonnay grapes, sourced from a variety of Australia’s wine-growing regions. The fresh citrus characters of Semillon and the richness of Chardonnay produce a crisp, refreshing medium-bodied dry wine, with ...

Advantages: Cheap, easy to open and award winning Disadvantages: Guaranteed to give me a headache the next day
Deano76 and Jools 30 have probably been awaiting this op, following our exchanges tonight they were aware that I have been sitting in front of my PC with a bottle of Jacob’s Creek Semillon Chardonnay which is a white wine from the South Eastern region of Australia.
I am quite surprised that blurbubble hasn’t reviewed this one, as we are all familiar with her wine ops.
I first stumbled across Jacob’s Creek when going for the local off licences buy ... ...drinking now cost me £4.69 from my local Budgens store. Drinks direct will charge you £5.88 for the pleasure – Umph!
Jacob’s Creek comes in a recyclable green glass bottle with a simple cream label that discloses the background information of the vineyard as follows:
In 1847, Johann Gramp, founder of Orlando wines, planted one of the first vineyards in the Barossa Valley on the banks of Jacob’s Creek. Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay is vintaged from selected ...

Advantages: It has a great fruity, tangey taste Disadvantages: It's far too addictive
...1847, Johann Gramp planted his Jacob's Creek Vineyard, the first in the Barossa Valley.
This vintage was tasted in a harbor-side restaurant at Carolina Beach NC and it proved to be the perfect accompaniment to snow crab legs. Frankly it is a tribute to the Jacob's Creek winemaking team, headed by Phil Laffer, that they can maintain such high standards with a high volume wine.
That was the history lesson, and now with the modern 1999 version which ... ...hints of citrus fruit, which are confirmed on the palate alongside tropical fruit flavors. These are finely balanced with a touch of freshness and acidity before a most satisfying finish. It is excellent value for money and can be drunk as an aperitif or with most fish dishes, veal and other light meats. So as you can see I love this stuff and I would highly highly recommend it to anyone throwing a dinner party, or a similar such function. I don't ...

Advantages: A happy medium (explain later), often on special Disadvantages: Not sure its worth it on normal price
Next to my block of flats is a Sainbury's local. It isn't good for the big shop but it is good for nipping in for some fruit and veg, or a bottle after a hard week of work. Every week they have around 3-4 brands half price, quite often this one.
I`ll be honest, I`m tight, and so always aim for the half price wine. I work on the principle that it's a nice brand, but half price which is better than getting an own brand for 14p a bottle less or so!
... ...fan of red wine whilst my partner is. When it comes to white she likes dry whilst I prefer the sweet. Not overly sweet, but fairly sweet. This is where the happy medium comes in from the advantages section :) The wine is a fairly heavy white wine which is good for "her indoors" as it's edging towards the red end of the spectrum but its white so I like it. It is also a good medium balance. I like it for the fruitiness whilst she does not find it too ...

A happy New Year, good health wealth and happiness I drink to you all with a glass of Jacobs Creek Semillon Chardonnay. A classy wine methinks.
This wine is a southeastern Australian wine. It is corked rather than those horrid plastic caps A bottle, a simple classic design and a simple label no need for eye catching labels contains 75cl more than enough to make me happy. ) It is 12 % proof.
I usually prefer red wines but this is a very good white ... ...This is a dry wine I prefer it chilled smooth and a little sharp a refreshing taste makes the pallet tingle leaves no unpleasant aftertaste. It has a sort of citruss'y flavour a clean taste.
This wine goes well with fish and chicken / turkey but what do the experts know hey I like it with most foods.
Tesco is selling a case of six for £25. 54p at the mo wpoks out 4.26 a bottle .

Advantages: It's Chardonnay - which many people like Disadvantages: Poor value for money
were in the £5-£6 a bottle mark.
Out top came JacobsCreekSemillonChardonnay. I suspect this is because the blend contains a greater proportion of Semillon grape, vs Chardonnay and I do think people's taste-buds may be suffering a certain Chardonnay fatigue. But JacobsCreek, for the money, is probably as good as you are going to get at this price range. It was my personal favourite of the wines we tasted too.
Second was Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay. Its a classic Chardonnay, very smooth on the tongue with oak, but not overpowering. (Much Australian wine is oaked in oak casks which adds to the flavour. Try a wine actually described as "oaked" and one described as "unoaked" to understand the difference. More about oak when we come to the Hardys Stamp.)
Next on the list came Tesco Own Able Australian Chardonnay. This was a very new ...
