***TASTE TEST***
When you open the tub you are greeted by a wheat smell. I can't really smell a marmite/yeast smell very much. The sticks feel quite dry and they are very knobbly and they all seem to look different. Now I have got a stick out of the tub and when I smell it I can now smell a marmite type smell. As you bite into the stick it is very crunchy and you can taste a light wheat taste with the lovely yummy taste of the ... more
I've been looking round my room trying to give my ideas on what I can write my next review on and I finally found something! I have a massive pot of Twiglets sitting in my room left over from xmas, so here goes!
***WHAT ARE TWIGLETS?*** Twiglets are crunchy wholegrain sticks covered in yeast extract (Marmite/Bovril taste). The sticks themselves are a very light brown colour and the yeast extract gives them darker brown patches and spots! I'm actually eating out of a 200g tub, so the sticks are shorter probably about 1 inch, whereas the twig lets you get in the snack packets are about 2 times longer than these!
Twiglets are made by Jacobs, who are well known for making a large range of Cream Crackers.

***TASTE TEST*** When you open the tub you are greeted by a wheat smell. I can't really smell a marmite/yeast smell very much. The sticks feel quite dry and they are very knobbly and they all seem to look different. Now I have got a stick out of the tub and when I smell it I can now smell a marmite type smell. As you bite into the stick it is very crunchy and you can taste a light wheat taste with the lovely yummy taste of the yeast extract (its just easier if I say marmite because that's what I think it tastes like).
The taste of marmite isn't overpowering, it's just enough to give a nice flavour to the crunch stick. I find these very addictive and very more-ish and as soon as I have 1 you have to take them away from me otherwise I'll keep on eating them!
***CALORIES AND NUTRITIONAL VALUES*** The following applies to 1 serving (1 bag/30g) I am talking about the small bags here not the huge ones!! * Calories - 117 * Protein - 3.6 * Carbohyrdate - 18.4 * Fat - 3.2 * Fibre - 3.5
Contains: Wheat, Gluten, Celery. These are produced on a lin handling milk, egg and in a factory handling sesame seeds.
These contain 41% of your wholegrain GDA per 25g serving.
***HOW DO I EAT MINE?*** Yes I have many ways of eating different things (if you read my Malteser review you will know what I mean!)
* JUST CRUNCHING - I just pop them in my mouth one at a time and just crunch them until they are all gone!
* SUCKING - My favourtie way is popping one of these sticks into my mouth and suck/lick all the marmite off of them & then crunch the rest of the stick . . Yummy!
***RECOMMENDED?*** I think these are truly yummy and truly addictive, I'm not too sure you will like them if you're a marmite hater because I think they do taste like marmite. I have heard other people say they don't think they do taste like marmite but you never know until you give them a go!
Advantages: Taste deliciously Marmite-y, *apparently* lower in fat than crisps - but you get a bigger bag so that sort of cancels out, doesn't it? Disadvantages: The greasy feel on your fingers, waaaaaay salty
...have been around forever but Jacobs are jumping on the healthy food bandwagon and telling us in prominent letters on each bag that Twiglets are baked instead of fried and that as fibre goes, no can't do much better than a bag of Twiglets. You're still talking 173 cals and 5.3g fat in each 45g bag so not one to be able to fit into your calorie controlled diet too often, although marginally better than a bag of crisps.
So onto the taste. Again, Marmite. ... ...their crisps, Jacobs have captured the taste (as opposed to the flavour) of Marmite perfectly. Blimping at the ingredients list I can tell you that both yeast extract and vegetable extract are used to flavour Twiglets so it all seems pretty authentic. The flavour is pretty strong, the Marmite 'kick' has been toned down slightly to give a more mellow taste but the flavour is still quite overpowering. They taste really salty to me although when you've ...

Advantages: nice packaging, quite cheap Disadvantages: after taste
I love my crisps and snacks and so far most things I tend to review are usually things that I am relatively positive about. However, every so often I do like to throw in a review on something I am not as keen about as it seems more realistic that I do have a few dislikes like everyone else. I was sitting at work the other day and got some nice crisps out of the machine but then my colleague came in and offered me a ………Twiglet. I had not seen these ... ...some sense and stopped selling them but unfortunately not. I have never liked Twiglets apart from the ones with a little flavouring but the original are vile to me.
My colleague wouldn’t stop offering me a Twiglet until I finally took one, so I slowly unwillingly put my hand in the packet. I could smell the strong wholemeal type smell as the bag opened. These are made in Aintree by Jacob’s who make Happy Faces and Crackers. The bags I have seen ...

Advantages: With drinks, at a party, or in front of the television Twiglets are good . Disadvantages: None
...hard to work out how Jacobs arrived at the decision to call these savoury bites `Twiglets`, the whole wheat snacks have been modelled on an actual twig, where the idea came from I just don't know! They are a great little party snack or a nibble to have with drinks but then again they are just as good to eat if you are sat in front of the television watching one of your favourite programmes.
Saying that Twiglets won't appeal to everyone, each very ... ...fit for the bin.
Jacobs have placed a lot of emphasis on the fact that the snack are made using wholegrain flour and this statement is in a prominent position on the front of the sharing bag.
Inside of the bag there are a mass of Twiglets, long, short, fat and thin. The Twiglets themselves are peculiar looking nibbles, the beige coloured wholewheat snacks are like sticks that are covered in small lumps and bumps and they look gnarled and arthritic.

...of various Twiglets and the Jacobs logo. On the back of the packet are the ingredients and the nutritional information.
I include the ingredients for those people who suffer from food allergies as I think that it is helpful for them to know what is in the product so that they know whether or not they can eat it. So the ingredients are:
Wholewheat Meal (77%), Flavouring [Yeast Extract, Vegetable Extracts, Spice Extracts (Contains Celery Seed), Niacin, ... ...you can see there is not a lot of ingredients in these so you don't need to be worried about them being full of nasty chemicals. Unfortunately though these are not good for allergy sufferers as they contain milk, gluten and celery plus they are made on a line handling egg and in a factory handling sesame seeds so beware if you have an allergy to any of those things. They are however suitable for vegetarians.
As you may have guessed Twiglets are ...

Advantages: Very tasty, nice size Disadvantages: Too moorish and make fingers a little sticky
...Twiglets are made by Jacobs and come in a very striking foil bag. The bags background is black with large metallic blue and red circles on. The word ‘twiglets’ is emblazoned in white in the middle on the red, with ‘original’ written in yellow edged in red above on the blue. The Jacobs diamond logo is on the top left had corner and in the bottom right hand corner is written’ give em some stick’. A good attractive packet to catch the eye on the shelves.
