AUGUST 2007 When my mobile phone contract ended, I decided to find a better contract.
A new JAG store had opened up in Southampton, and had only been open a week so I decided I would go there. In the City Centre there had been loads of people publicising it and I had picked up loads of leaflets that promised really good deals.
With that in mind, I set off to find the best phone/contract deal I could!
When I first went in to the store, I was immediately asked what I wanted and the staff were very friendly and helped me to choose a phone and contract.
As the store had only been open for a week, it was very clean and new, which is always good! I havent been to any other JAG stores though so I cannot compare.
The phone I originally wanted was not in stock, so I asked which other phones were as good, if not better. I really wanted a pink phone, so they showed me every pink phone they had, and were not put off when I kept asking loads of questions.
They didn't have a really wide range of phones available to look at, but I had a few already in mind, which they did have the models of for me to look at.
When I chose the phone I wanted, they did not have it in stock, but promised I would get it in a few days and they would have delivered to me, free of charge, which they did.
Then it came to choosing the contract, the sales person told me I could get 500 minutes and unlimited texts for £35 a month. He made it sound really good, and said that it would only be available for that day. Thinking it sounded so good, I accepted and filled out the paperwork.
It did not take long for the forms to be filled out, and it was all easy enough.
Thinking I had a good deal was really good, but then a few days later, I walked past and happened to notice, they were now selling the contracts for £30 a month, with 600 minutes and unlimited texts. I picked up a leaflet and they had been offering this deal for the past few weeks, but did not mention it to me when I went in.
I realise I should have looked into it more, before I signed the contract, but I feel they should have told me about this offer, as it was available with any phone, so I could have that instead!
I am happy with the service I got, although I think they made the offer sound better than it was, even though I know that's their job.
Overall, would probably shop around before I next choose a contract, and I probably wouldn't shop in JAG again, as I would not want to be cheated out of minutes and have to pay more, when I shouldn't have too!
______________________________________________________________ JULY 2009
It has now been 18 months since my terrible experience in JAG. I decided that at the end of my contract, I would just go somewhere else to choose a phone. However, I got a call from one of the staff in JAG (no-one that had been there the first time I went). He said I was due to upgrade my phone and he made an appointment for me to go in.
My contract over the 18 months has been AWFUL. At JAG they neglected to tell me at the start that I would pay £3.50 non-direct debit charge every month and also £1.50 itemised bill every month. Not knowing this, I have spent an extra £5 a month (£90 in total!!!!) over the course of my contract.
Th night before I decided I was going to let them know how bad my contract had been and that if they could offer me a better deal then I would upgrade my phone. If not, I had no intention of staying.
When I went in the man I spoke to on the phone was friendly and listened to what I had to say. He explained the charges I had been receiving and he told me to ring Orange on 150 and ask them to stop them for me.
He went on to apologies for the poor service I had been given the first time, and that the people who used to work there no longer did. I told him that my contract had been far too high and that i was not happy.
He asked me how many messages I needed and how many minutes I needed and we went from there. Idecided I liked having unlimited messages and that instead of the 600 minutes I had before, I decided to go for 400. This would cost me £25 a month which is way better than the £35 I was spending before.
Then it came to choosing the phone. From my records, he had seen that the first time I went for a purple U600 and so he decided to keep a pink Sony phone for me to see as he thougt I may like that. I thought this was very good as he had actually thought about who might walk into the shop and what they might want.
I decided I didn't want that phone and pointed to the pink LG KP501 instead. He said my tarriff was too low to have that phone. However, when I said I really liked it, he said that he would check if that was ok. After a few minutes of looking in a folder, he agreed I was able to have that phone. I was really pleased by this point and decided to take the plunge. I asked if there was any chance of getting a free gift also. Without a blink, he gave me a silver ipod shuffle!
I was really chuffed about this as I had got the tarriff I wanted, the phone I liked and a free ipod!!
He then went through the WHOLE of my contract with me and made sure I knew exactly what I was getting. I am very pleased I went back into JAG now as I have finally got the contract I wanted.
I believe it was the chnage of staff that really made the difference. You could tell the person I saw actually cared about his job and whathe was doing, whereas before Im not sure they did.
As for the store, it was exactly the same as last time, except with different phones. (Not a complaint, but thought I should mention it.) It is a small store though and not many people can get in there.
I feel I know exactly what Im paying for now, which is good! I rang Orange and asked them to take everyhting off my bill for me, just as he told me too, and now I will onkly pay the £25 a month I was told I would. :-)
Advantages: They have resolved an issue Disadvantages: none
...very bad experience with the JAG Store in Wokingham I am pleased to say that after publishing my story on ciao and letters, phonecalls, visits and conversations at length with the store they have finally resolved my issue.
The member of staff that was the basis of the issue and caused myself and the company much stress is, I am assured under investigation. The company is dealing with the issue in a very professional manner and have pleasantly surprised ... ...GOOD TO BE TRUE.
By all means get what you can, but be careful.
All there is left for me to say is to thank the area manager in charge of the Wokingham JAG store and for me to enjoy the remainder of my Orange contract.

Advantages: Very good offers. Friendly service you'd expect from a shop. Disadvantages: Well, so it takes a few days to get a contract. That's it.
...I think this is too good an offer to refuse.
I've also heard lots of good stories from people for whom Jag is their local store, so I don't think I'm the exception. For a shop to sell phones mail order and retain friendly service is highly commendable. ...

...had very BAD experience with Jag in Wokingham. I have bought there a phone that I was told was a brand new phone sold at a promotional price. I was also told that due to a system problem they were not able to give me an invoice but instead I was given a handwritten receipt and promised that my invoice will be sent to me shortly. After receiving the invoice via post I have found that the phone was not a promotional item as I was told at the purchase ... ...phone was faulty and also in the box there was no user manual in English nor headphones. After three visits in the store while they have been convincing me that it's a normal thing for a new phone's battery to last only 1-2 days (on stand by) they have finally agreed to take back the phone, they gave me a credit note and promised to send me in a week's time a check with the refund. This was on the 12th of August 2008 and I still have not received ...

After-sales service
Quick review of Jag Communications
Very bad experience when sent phone away for repair!
I sent the whole phone and battery, but when it returned it did not have the battery or back!
When I questioned this I was told it was company policy NOT to send the battery or back! (I have since found this not to be true).
I argued the point and was then told to f***ing well leave the store as I was calling one of the salesmen a liar!
I was told that the (camera ?) lens was broken and until this was fixed the phones warranty was void!
I have written a complaint to head office, and to 3 -but have still not had a reply!
It has been over 1 week. ...

horrendous customer service despite being mis=sold a contract which they admitted. Weymouth store really not to be relied upon even when they admit to making a mistake!! Assurances given that contractor would be contacted and the issue resolved this still not the case as we are being constantly bombarded with phonecalls from 3G despite the goods having been returned months ago! If the product had been fit for the purpose we obtained it for we would not have returned it;we accepted in good faith the product info given by staff ...
