...Now having driven a real Jaguar I realise what I heap the Leganza was. The bullet proof 2.5 litre, V6 engine, 4 wheel drive, the smooth and quiet ride, the comfortable quality leather seats, all make this car feel in a different world to its far-eastern competitor (fortunately no more in any incarnation).
The Jag's boot is large in plan dimensions but as others have said it's not deep. The rear passenger space is best described as ... ...the root of this car. Jaguar have added all the touches that one would expect from the marque and added those to a solid, reliable and stable chassis. Four wheel drive adds another safety factor and more airbags than a room full of politicians make the car very safe in the event of a smash.
Of course all of the above is just initial thoughts and observations on a week of owning the car, but I'll re-write this after a few months of ... more
My previous car was a 2 litre Daewoo Leganza which I thought was pretty comfortable although a bit thirsty. Definitely roomy and until the head gasket went, very reliable.
I have to admit, another big car was not really on my shopping list - I actually had my eye on an LPG Astra and would have been happy, but the girlfriend saw this one at Carbase.biz in Weston-Super-Mare and it filled her criteria. It's red.

The Jag's boot is large in plan dimensions but as others have said it's not deep. The rear passenger space is best described as 'enough', so long as you are not 6 ft tall, but then I don't expect that there are many cars that a tall person would be comfortable in for a long drive.
The front half though is a different story. Seats that adjust to every body shape and are firm enough to hold you in place and electrically adjustable on both sides. Cubby holes, nooks and crannies everywhere, including 2 storage compartments under the armrest - a small flat one for the mobile phone or GPS and a larger one for sweets, a bottle or other items. The glove box is quite generous too.
The stereo really sounds the biz for a factory fit - but that's just as well as you can't fit your own. Shame really as I'd prefer my 10 CD Sony unit, but I'll live with the single CD item as fitted. Air conditioning and climate control that chills you out and so many clever little ideas that more could adopt if they just took the thought to heart. Like a little arrow on the side of the petrol pump symbol on the gauge to remind you which side the filler cap is on. If you're constantly in and out of various cars, you appreciate the reminder.
If you're a DIY mechanic you'd be well advised to get a really good workshop manual or to forget it. There's not much space under the bonnet although all the items for regular checks are within easy reach, actually changing anything could be difficult. Even the plugs are under a large shield, but again that's not unusual on a modern car.
I bought my 52 reg model in May 2008 with 60,000 miles and 2 previous owners on the clock. I take my hat off to those 2 previous owners as the interior and exterior of my new car is immaculate. Absolutely showroom condition. My ambition now is to keep it that way. I'd say it's far more than the tarted up Mondeo which is at the root of this car. Jaguar have added all the touches that one would expect from the marque and added those to a solid, reliable and stable chassis. Four wheel drive adds another safety factor and more airbags than a room full of politicians make the car very safe in the event of a smash.
Of course all of the above is just initial thoughts and observations on a week of owning the car, but I'll re-write this after a few months of ownership and see if my feelings have changed.
Advantages: A great car, a great price and a great ride. Disadvantages: Soft suspension a bit too soft.
...when you can have a Jaguar X-Type?
A friend of mine bought one recently and I had to test drive it. I'm so glad I did. The ride was smooth, the handling was beautiful and the interior was classy and neat.
After doing some research, I found out that the reason the handling was so good was because the Jaguar X-Type I drove had All Wheel Drive (AWD). Hence, the car gripped to the road, especially in corners. I really threw the car into the corners ... ...the interior.
In a Jaguar X-type, many options come as standard. Climate control, sat nav, AWD, all round electric windows (some Audi A4's only have front electric windows!) and much more. Now for some more good news. To buy a Jaguar X-Type normally costs about £25K RRP. However, if you go to a third party broker (i.e Autoebid.com) you can pick these cars up for about £21K. that's a £4K saving! You can pick up a Jaguar for VW Golf money! Think about ...

Advantages: Quiet enough to hear myself think Disadvantages: Depreciation
I have had my Jaguar X-Type now for 2.5 years, and I absolutely adore it. It is a 2.5 SE, with a V6 engine. It has leather upholstery, alloys and a walnut dashboard and it positively glides along the road. Oh and all the 2.5's and above are all 4 wheel drive, which this year has come in quite handy with the ice and snow.
I do a fair amount of miles so I went for an automatic, and although there is a slight loss of power when you pull away, since ... ...the usual taxi routine.
Jaguar service has been second to none, the garage will collect my car for a service and drop it off again either from the office or from home. If you want to go and take your car in, then they offer you rides into town to shop while you wait, or complimentary day passes to fitness centres, or of course you can use a courtesy car. All those are at no additional cost.
The servicing isn't as expensive as you would expect, ...

Advantages: Beautiful Luxurious Car Disadvantages: Loves its Petrol and the kids can get in it too!
My first glance at the Jaguar X Type Sports was at the Motor Show last year. There is was, shining in all its glory - midnight black metallic paintwork - not a trace of chrome anywhere on the body - and it was kept away from the public's fingerprints on its own revolving stand.
From that moment on I knew that I wanted that car.
I travel a lot in my line of work and with about 30,000 miles to travel each year I figured that it was time that I treated ... ...Jaguar at the show I knew what I was aiming for.
I received all of the required reading materials from the Jag dealers - and little did I know what you can get in just the X type range. All of the differing engine sizes and trim levels, and accessories coming out of the ying yang! From rear window fitted sun-visors to state of the art satnav technology - its all there to be had - if you can afford it.
My visit to the dealers was smooth-ish - but ...

Advantages: luxury, smmothness, stunning looks, power, comfort, space, driving pleasure Disadvantages: small glove box, low mpg on urban cycle.
...can I say about the Jaguar 2.5 SE 4WD X-Type that doesn't involve choking on my own superlatives ? It is magnificent - that is the only word for it. I was a sales rep for 30 yrs and have driven all sorts of vehicles but the Jag beats them all. It's hard to believe it's essentially a Mondeo in a party frock but as I had a Mondeo and found it to be a quality, well made, reliable car - 105000miles in 2 yrs, not ONE problem - maybe it's no bad thing ... ...mid-sized superlative limo.
It's a shame the oil crisis has killed the demand for cars like this. My wife and I don't drive a lot nowadays - we are both term time workers and don't travel much - so we can stand the 25mpg average fuel consumption. Town driving sees as little as 17mpg but motorway work sees as much as 39mpg.
The X-Type is only available as a diesel now which is a shame. The 2.5 V6 is quiet, smooth, powerful and purrs when you go ...

Advantages: good handling, beautiful looking car Disadvantages: petrol consumption
I bought this thiscar second hand at an auction. I wasn't actually looking for a jaguar at all but I stumbled across this car and fell in love with its look.
It is undoubtedly a beautiful british car. The rear end in particular is masterfully designed with sleek and elegant lines. The twin exhaust gives the execcutive looking jaguar a far more powerfull and ruthless look. The interior is of a high standard as you would expect with any jaguar.
I have owned the car for almost a year now and have no problems to date. The only down side I can see with this car is its fuel consumption. It does hit your wallet quite hard, especially if you enjoy pushing the car around faster than it should be going. Other than that, if you can afford the petrol and its not an issue, I would thoroughly recommend this car. ...
I really believed that the Xtype was nothing more than a Mondeo in a very pretty body and badged as a Jaguar.
Having bought a business that already owned an Xtype, my plan was to sell the car immediately and buy a Mercedes. That was six months ago!
I've been so impressed with the small Jag, that I'm going to keep it. It's not without flaws, as you'll soon see, but it is a terrific package, and above all, it has that indefinable "Jaguar Presence".
The model we have is known here as the Executive, which is equivalent to UK SE spec. It lacks for nothing in terms of equipment with electric seats, very powerful climate control, cruise, CD changer, rear parking sensors, HID headlamps and auto lights and wipers. The leather is proper thick Connolly stuff and the dashboard is swathed in highly polished Canadian Maple. Wood and leather may ...
Advantages: Jaguar badge. Styling. Lots of options to play with. Disadvantages: Very little equipment. Cramped interior. Some not very refined.
I have to start by saying I don't own or run an X-Type Diesel, came very close to doing so, but then discovered the Accord Diesel and purchased that instead.
I test drove one of the launch cars last year at Company Car in Action at the Millbrook Proving Ground. It was an option laden d Sport and looked superb in black.
Very impressive was the overall refinement, I informed the Jaguar staff on the stand quite honestly that I would be replacing my much liked 2.5 V6 (petrol) Omega with this car.
However my wife was not present to ride in this car and I booked a test drive with our local Jaguar dealer just for her to try it out before signing on the dotted line.....
.....and what a good job we did try that second car!
This one was more London taxi than Jaguar, it also had quite the worst wind noise that I have experienced in ...
