of decades, easily outstripping earlier cult books such as Robert Persig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Carlos Castenada's Don Juan books. The nine Insights of James Redfield's first book were added to by a second book, Tenth Insight and now by an 11th in The Secret of Shambhala.Books of this type have often had a certain ambiguity: are they supposed to be taken as factual accounts or as allegorical novels? Redfield's publishers are describing this one as "the new novel", and (probably to the disappointment of the book's many thousands of fans) The Celestine Prophesy as his "first novel". Fiction they are, then, but the word "novel" is perhaps misleading; these books are allegorical tall tales teaching tenets of practical philosophy: look out for coincidences in your life because synchronicities are meaningful. The 11th Insight is about the power of prayer or positive thinking or affirmation; the book mentions recent studies which indicate that patients who are prayed for heal more rapidly than those who are not. If you think positive thoughts, these will affect people around you in a good way; if you are full of anger and fear, you will attract precisely those things you most dread. The hard-bitten and cynical will see this book as yet another example of New Age psychobabble but for Redfield's many followers the teachings in this book will make a great deal of sense--and in any case, having a positive, loving attitude can only bring good. --David V. Barrett
...wants to prevent the spreading of it. The main character encounters men who believe this and is also met by interesting events and troubles.
Redfield has written a masterpiece and I felt I was in the book the whole time. It is impossible to put it down. The whole scenery is described with amazing detail and talent. I got a bit worried, that was how deep I was in the story.
If you enjoy reading this book, you might like a meditation book by Redfield, which teaches you to live according to the manuscript....

Advantages: Opens your eyes to things you took for granted Disadvantages: may have to be open to ideas before reading it
...This book is priced at £7.99 from most book shops although it has an uncanny way of finding you itself- mine was a gift from a friend.
JamesRedfield takes you on a journey of coincidences and discovery, searching through Peru for the ancient manuscripts that the Celestine Prophecies are based on.You get involved in his adventure, learning about life with him as he discovers each prophecy.
JamesRedfield writes clearly and concisely. The book could quite easily be a lecture on how we should live our lives but instead is written as a story. You tend to contemplate on the ideas about morality , the condition of civilization and the planet which he suggests through his own reflections. His ideas are inobtrusive but leave you wanting to join him on the slopes of Peru, taking in the views of the forest with him.
If you agree with the beliefs...

Advantages: Very good messages Disadvantages: none
...After being somewhat disappointed with Redfield's 'Tenth Insight', this book is a must for those of you who loved the 'Celestine Prophecy'. It is written in the same mould and although not a literary classic it keeps you turning the pages to discover what the next part of the adventure holds.
Don't be put off by the simplicity of his writing style as that is now what is important, it's the messages within the lines which will have a major impact on you, albeit subtly at first.
The basis of the book is to tell us that our thoughts affect our lives in a major way, whether we believe it or not. If we have negative thoughts we will attract negative situations in our lives. If we have positive thoughts we will unconsciously be drawn to positive people and positive situations. This is done in the form of 'prayer energy', in that our...
