Advantages: value for money Disadvantages: only can be bought from Debenhams
...I have recently bought a home cinema surround sound system. Was this product worth the £299.00????? or was it a little too cheap?
The Paramount System HCS5300D AVR can only be purchased from Debenhams. The system comes complete with a large active sub woofer, 4 satellite speakers (same size as speakers for a computer) and a centre speaker (that sits on the television). Also included in the huge box is an amplifier and remote as well as a comprehensive instruction manual.
Installation is simple .All the wires have been coloured coded to allow us mere mortals the opportunity of doing something right the first time. The 23-page manual offers layout ideas and helps with the best location of all the speakers.
The amplifier has a wide variety of inputs which include digital optical and digital coaxial. The amp also doubles up as a radio...

Advantages: Design; connectivity Disadvantages: DVD player; menus
...I used to have DMR 50. It was a decent piece of equipment, even though with some quirks. Very unfortunately, after about two years the DVD player went... well... s***apens. I wasn't overly concerned and decided to get a newer version of a Jamo DVD player, DMR 60.
The design is quite slick and fits with pretty much any piece of equipment. Looks very nice in your room among TVs, amplifiers, etc. But that's pretty much all as far as pros go.
On the downside... well.. where should I start? My first disappointment was it's menu system. It's like you are going back to the 80s and not in a good way! The menu design is very primitive (remember your Commodores and Sinclairs, well, you get the idea), the file menu can't even display more than a few letters in a file name, so if you have a bunch of files with similar names (for example, few...

Advantages: Kicking sound, price Disadvantages: Cone's are delicate and break easily
...List price on these are £199, i bought them for £50 second hand, and was i impressed!
The mission 702e's are not to be taken lightly these will perform in even the most expensive set up. i have seen these perform as well as a £450 pair of Jamo's (probably most well known for making 'club' style speakers) with two bass drivers, and were not noticeably different. The bass put out by the mission's was not as deep as the jamo's but on par with the treble and mid-range.
The misson's are rated at 20W-100W matching of amplifiers, and run at an impedence of 8 ohms. obivously not much different to most other speakers. They come with a bass driver which is a kevlar moulded dome, this basically is woven synthetic. The tweeter that provides treble is a soft dome style.
They come in either a black or beech casing and llok the part, i must say...

The first thing you notice with this Toshiba SD-260 DVD Player is that it looks good, it's silver, think and looks modern and stylish. The height is 43.8 mm, width is 421 mm and the depth is 260 mm and it weighs 2.3 kg, which is fairly light. On the... more
